Living in Oklahoma there is always bedlam between the schools.  I love cheering for both schools throughout the year and decided that I would create some new artwork showing some team spirit.

Loving Touch Marketplace booth update

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Today I spent a couple hours updating one of my booths at Loving Touch Marketplace in Yukon Oklahoma. I should have taken some before photos, but I didn’t think about that at the time.. I was just ready to change things up and hoping to bring more light into my booth…  So I dismantled my booth step by step, boxing things up so I would have room to move around and while I was putting things away I had two custoLinda Israel Booth 1mers top and pick things up and buy! LOL.. I guess they were thinking I was leaving! lol  Nothing like the fear of something walking out the door to cause someone to buy! lol… Oh I forgot to mention that before I went to the marketplace that I had to assemble the shelf unit and that took almost an hour to do by myLinda Israel Booth 2self.. The instructions they put with items kill me! Well actually it is the lack of instructions. There were photos with arrows and no wording to tell you to hammer or screw the necessary parts together.. ugh! I should have known it was made in China! lol… But I digress…

Once all of the items were cleared out of the booth and I vacuumed I was able to install the new shelf unit and anchor it to the support wall. Then I started loading things back into the booth. I kept pulling things out of the boxes and thinking ok I’m done, then I would turn around and would find another box. Good grief, how much stuff was in that booth? lol.. By the end of a couple of hours I finally got what I wanted back in the booth, cleaned out all of the trash and got the camera out and took a couple oLinda Israel Booth 3f photos…

Now it is time for people to stop by and purchase items… If there is something you are looking for in a particular color or style, just let them know at the counter and they will contact me, or you can send me an email via the website… I will take requests for custom orders…

Looking forward to filling the shelves again (hint, hint, lol)…

Shoes in Church

Friday, November 19th, 2010

A friend sent the following story to me today. I liked the story so much I thought I would share this with others, in the hopes that you to might like the story and maybe it would touch you in a special way…

I showered and shaved………….. I adjusted my tie.

I got there and sat…………… In a pew just in time.

Bowing my head in prayer………. As I closed my eyes..

I saw the shoe of the man next to me…… Touching my own. I sighed.

With plenty of room on either side….. I thought, ‘Why must our soles touch?’

It bothered me, his shoe touching mine… But it didn’t bother him much.

A prayer began: ‘Our Father’…………. I thought, ‘This man with the shoes, has no pride.

They’re dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!’

‘Thank You for blessings,’ the prayer went on.

The shoe man said………….. A quiet ‘Amen.’

I tried to focus on the prayer……. But my thoughts were on his shoes again.

Aren’t we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?

‘Well, this certainly isn’t it,’ I thought, Glancing toward the floor..

Then the prayer was ended……….. And the songs of praise began.

The shoe man was certainly loud….. Sounding proud as he sang.

His voice lifted the rafters…….. His hands were raised high.

The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man’s voice from the sky.

It was time for the offering…… And what I threw in was steep.

I watched as the shoe man reached…. Into his pockets so deep.

I saw what was pulled out………… What the shoe man put in.

Then I heard a soft ‘clink’ . As when silver hits tin.

The sermon really bored me………. To tears, and that’s no lie.

It was the same for the shoe man…. For tears fell from his eyes.

At the end of the service…… As is the custom here.

We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer.

But I felt moved somehow………….. And wanted to meet the shoe man.

So after the closing prayer…….. I reached over and shook his hand.

He was old and his skin was dark…. And his hair was truly a mess.

But I thanked him for coming……… For being our guest.

He said, ‘My names’ Charlie……….. I’m glad to meet you, my friend.’

There were tears in his eyes…….. But he had a large, wide grin.

‘Let me explain,’ he said………. Wiping tears from his eyes.

‘I’ve been coming here for months…. And you’re the first to say ‘Hi.”

‘I know that my appearance…………’Is not like all the rest.

‘But I really do try……………..’To always look my best.’

‘I always clean and polish my shoes..’Before my very long walk.

‘But by the time I get here……….’They’re dirty and dusty, like chalk.’

My heart filled with pain………. And I swallowed to hide my tears.

As he continued to apologize………. For daring to sit so near

He said, ‘When I get here…………..’I know I must look a sight.

‘But I thought if I could touch you..’Then maybe our souls might unite.’

I was silent for a moment……….. Knowing whatever was said

Would pale in comparison… I spoke from my heart, not my head.

‘Oh, you’ve touched me,’ I said……’And taught me, in part;

‘That the best of any man……………’Is what is found in his heart.’

The rest, I thought,……………….. This shoe man will never know.

Like just how thankful I really am… That his dirty old shoe touched my soul…

It’s Almost Christmas

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

I was going through some Christmas cards I made and realized that Christmas is almost here. It amazes me how fast this year has flown by me… I feel like I was standing still as the world zoomed by at lighting speed.

I have done a little Christmas shopping and I’m making a few gifts this year. My family is small and we try to keep Christmas a simple affair. Last year we had a huge snow storm that kept us home. Who knows what will happen this year. I will plan to just enjoy the days ahead.

What are your plans? Have you started or finished your Christmas shopping?

Gift ideas I thought I would share:

Hand made greeting cards – Birthday, Thinking of you, Get Well, and just blank cards make a great gift. My mother in law loves getting cards as a gift, although she has a hard time using the cards, so I make sure that I give her several of the same design…

Hand made book mark – I use book marks all of the time, so does my mother. I like to make book marks from paper or wire and beads. I try to personalize the book mark for the person that I’m giving book mark…

Making gifts for guys can be difficult. They usually don’t want frilly, lacy and smelly items.. lol.. One year I made fleece scarfs. I purchased fleece in colors I thought the men would like and made the scarves at least 60 inches if not longer and about 12 inches wide. Then I made fringe on the ends by cutting in one inch increments and two inches along the short edges. If you have access to an embroidery machine or the time to hand stitch you could add their name to one end of the scarf. I even made one for myself and I still use that scarf, it is so soft and warm.

The key to hand made gifts is the thought and love that you put into the item. Almost everyone I know loves getting a well thought out hand made gift. People know that you took great care in making an item just for them. Instead of going to a local retail store and picking from the mass production items that are found and sticking it into a bag… Make this Christmas special by giving a hand made gift.
