ATC -Weapon – The Human Soul on Fire

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

The theme for this ATC (Artist Trading Card) was Weapon.  Our group – OFB ATC used a wide variety of weapons for this challenge – some used guns, brass knuckles and even a club.. lol.  For my ATC, I decided to use a quote that I thought was perfect. “The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.”  ~Ferdinand Foch

I created a fire out of various colors of paper that I had in my stash. I cut the “flames” by stacking the papers on top of each other and just making random cuts that resembled flames. Once I had a pile of papers I started the assembly.  After all of the flames were glued down with Zig two way glue I went over the whole area with glitter glue and sprinkled more glitter on top.  I cut out the phrase and mounted this on red velum.

The reason I chose this quote? Imagine a person who is excited, emotional and contagious about a conviction in their life. They may be excited about someone they love or something that they do and when they are so excited that you can’t help but want to know more, or want to run away! lol.. That is what it is like to see a human soul on fire and that can be a very powerful weapon.

So what fires you up? What burns deep within your soul? For me; My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the fact that He came to this world, died and rose again to save my soul.  I didn’t deserve anything that He has done for me, and He did it anyway…

Many Blessings…

July 2010 Workshop

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Today was a great day.. Three of my friends came over and we had a nice workshop and wonderful art was created..

We used a variety of supplies: Tim Holtz distressed inks and stamps, Rubber Stamps from Time to Stamp, Stazon ink, acrylic paint, cardstock, chipboard and scrapbook paper…

The first project we did today was ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) We used my sample cards as the inspiration to get everyone in the mood…

Meghan made two Beautiful cards. The first card she had to use the wing stamps by Tim Holtz. That was her focal point and then she went from there… I like the colors she chose for accenting the wings.. Then I love how she inserted the key into the keyhole on her second card…. Very clever Meghan…

Kathy was very industrious and made six ATCs. I was digging through my goobers (stash of embellishments and supplies) and found a safety pin and said to Kathy “here make something using that”… I think she did a great job of making the Stitches Divine card.. She even changed white ribbon to match her card using an ink pad. I liked how she used the little girl with wings, by putting your on the girls dress, that helped to bring the whole piece together…Great job..

Heather also worked on a couple of great ATCs, but she was a little shy and I was unable to get a photo of  these before she left.. Hopefully she will take a photo and send a copy to me so I can post it here for everyone. :)

The next project was making six by six inch art.. Everyone started out with the same papers and shapes. But each person made different choices when creating their art.. Kathy’s art has more green while Meghan’s had more orange.. But they both had the same paper when they began they just choose to use different supplies to embellish their artwork.

The last project we made was working on a eight by eight inch canvas panel and using a photograph.. I gave each person a choice of one of 6 flower photos that I took from my garden. Kathy and Heather both chose the sunflower photo.. I chose to use the zinnia photo and make an art piece along with the others…

I had a great time with the ladies today. I hope that they each had fun and learned something new today.. I also hope that they found a new friend today as they met a new person.

We are already checking our August calendar to see when we can get together again.. Make sure that you check back and find out when we will be getting together again so that you too can join in the fun…

Rainbow ATC

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

The following ATC was for the OFB ATC swap group. A group that was formed a year ago where I work. We started with only eight people and there are over 20 people that will participate in the weekly swaps. The theme was Spirituality or Spiritual. I chose to make two cards and the Rainbow ATC is one of the cards.

I used Black Embossing powder, a custom made stamp and water color crayons on water color paper. After the rainbow was painted and dried I used glitter glue/paint over the surface to give it a nice shimmer. Trimmed the card and mounted on a purple ATC card – 2.5 by 3.5 inches.

The following is a video of the whole process.

Please feel free to ask questions. I love sharing my knowledge with others and trying to help as best I can..

Make today a great day!

Tim Hotlz Masks, Scrapbook paper and Stamps used for Retirement ATC

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

This is a retirement ATC card that I made for a friend who retired this year from OFB. Our ATC group at work decided it would be fun to create cards for her before she left our group. Even though she has continued to participate in the swaps since she has been home.

I used a Stampabilities stamp for the text and scrapbook paper that was laying on my work table to create this ATC. I love the Tim Holtz mini masks, these are perfect for ATC’s or other small art projects. I used the mask to get the swirl in the background along with distressing ink and a homemade blending tool. The flowers are from Prima and in the center is Tulip Glitter paint.

I captured the creation of this card on video I hope you enjoy watching the creative process, as I create the card on the fly…

Thanks for stopping by, please feel free to ask questions,  I love to share what knowledge I have with others.

Make today a great day!

Horse ATC

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

The following ATC was for the OFB ATC swap group, the theme was Farm Animals and I chose to use Horses as my “farm animals”..

I used a standard size ATC blank to make my card which is 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. The stamp of the horses is by PSX. I love using water color pencils and a water brush. The clouds and grass stamps are from D.O.T.S. now known as Close to My Heart. I love using Tim Holtz distressed inks for shading. The glitter is a t-shirt paint by tulip, I found that it is very inexpensive and it dries with a very pretty glitter effect on paper.

Although in the video I speed up the water color portion it only took about 10 minutes to make this ATC once I had all of the supplies out on my work table. I think that this could also be a great starting point for other cards as well, could be a great greeting card or book mark.. I hope you enjoy the info I shared here today..

Thanks for stopping by, please feel free to share your thoughts on this ATC. What kind of ATC’s do you make? Who do you like to make ATC’s for?

Blessings

Collage ATC

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

The OFB ATC challenge was to create a collage. I decided to use some of my scraps to make a collage sheet and then cut that up to make an ATC (Artist Trading Card)..

Video where I walk through the process and make the ATC:

This is one of those fun techniques that is easy and once you create a page you can use it for more than one piece of art. Just cut out or off what you need for the project. I will use strips of the parent sheet to make a framed art or a greeting card.. and it looks like I spent a lot of time creating a one of a kind art..

Have fun with this technique. Please share your creations. I love seeing what others come up with..

Make today a great day!

Johnny Depp / Captain Jack Sparrow ATC

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Artist Trading Card for the OFB ATC group. Theme: Johnny Depp.

I choose to use a character from one of the movies: Captain Jack Sparrow… I just love his character in the Pirate movies.. I downloaded an image from a website and printed on cardstock. Scrapbook paper was used as the background. I’m loving the Tim Hotz mini masks and the Distress Inks. I love how versatile the distress inks are for artwork.. A Skull stamp from Inkadinkado. But I didn’t stop there…

The below video shows everything I did, I hope you enjoy watching. :)

Thanks for stopping and for watching.. If you have questions, please feel free to ask, as I love to share what knowledge I have with others.

Make today a great day!

Children Are ATC

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Artist Trading Card for the OFB ATC group.

When we were told what the theme was there were some chuckles and ahs. I   wondered what I would do and then I got lucky. I was flipping through a magazine  and found the quote and remembered that I had the child with butterfly wings   stamp. Then everything came together.

I used an unmounted stamp, background paper and a Butterfly die cut that was given  to me.. The paper flowers I made earlier with a tiny flower punch.

I used Glossy Accents by Ranger / Tim Holtz to glue things together in this project. The glitter glue is from Tulip (found in the t-shirt decorating asle). I love using watercolor pencils and an aqua pen.. The aqua pen makes it so much easier than  having a brush and water that would get dirty. Just wipe the tip on a paper towel or  something to clean it and move to the next color… And it is portable, no worries  about spilling water. I used bottled water to fill my Aqua pen.

I made my own tool to add ink to the paper. It is a felt square velcroed to a square block. Got the felt in the kids craft area, the velcro in sewing and the square in woodworking. These are pretty cheap to make and when the felt is too dirty to use or wears out just peel off and put another one on.. (I also use the same “tool” when I do polish stone on glossy paper, which will be another video soon).

My dogs were very noisy this night, my neighbor, who is also my CPA came over to bring our taxes – Ray D. Young CPA ROCKS!!! by the way… We got a refund on our Federal taxes we were pretty excited! lol… So that is why I cut out the “noise” it was very, very loud! LOL… Go see “My Dogs Feb 2010″ video and you will get an idea of how loud it can get.. lol…

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy viewing this ATC.

Please feel free to ask questions or leave comments… I might be slow to answer, as I’m still learning how this thing works! LOL.

Have a blessed day!!

Geometric Shapes ATC

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

The challenge for our OFB ATC group was to create an ATC (Artist Trading Card) with Geometric Shapes. Idea: Use Fun Foam Shapes to create a unique background or even a focal point. I used acrylic craft paint to change the color of the shapes and then stamped on top with a Brilliance Ink pad… Great way to use those odd colored or odd foam shapes. I liked this one so much I ended up making 8 cards! One for my swap partner and the others… hum… I guess I’ll swap with someone else. lol

Fun foam can be used in different ways. Next time you see fun foam don’t just pass it by pick some up and see how you can change the look of it and create something unique..

Tropical Paradise ATC

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

ATC for the OFB ATC group – Theme: Tropical.

I chose to use a stamp set from Studio G that I picked up at Michaels for $1.00 (Cloud Stamp by DOTS/CTMH). Used White cardstock cut to 2.25 by 3.25 inches that was then put on a blue base that is 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I love using Tim Holtz Distressed Inks because these will blend easily. This was a fun and easy card to make.

I like the size of ATC’s, being 2.5 by 3.5 inches makes it easy to finish a work of art in one sitting. I also get to use up items I already have on hand. If you haven’t tried to make an ATC, give it a try, you just might like making ATC’s…
