Travelin Through Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

This is a project that the Calico Collage Design team decided to create a Blog hop and make a Travelin Through Travelers Notebook Junk Journal to share on each YouTube channel.

I created a playlist with all of the videos on my YouTube.

All six of us that participated use the same Calico Collage Digital Kit – Travelin Through in our journals. So when you visit each YouTube video you will get a different version of the same kit in a Travelers Notebook size.

The idea was that everyone could then see a big variety of how this kit could be made into a Junk Journal.

Here is the video for my Travelin Through Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

This Journal Measures 8.25 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide. It has 12 sheets of paper for a total of 48 pages.

Travelin Through Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Making a Junk Journal can be as simple or as complicated as you decide. There isn’t a right or wrong way to make a junk journal. It is all about what you like and what you want to use. Just select some papers and fold in half, bind together and you have a journal. It can be very simple with out all the embellishments.  Some people prefer a blank journal as they want to add the stamping and embellishments. Others want the journal full of all kinds of cool things.

Travelin Through Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

The Tag on the right was a scrap of paper that I stamped then sewed scraps of lace and fabric on top. The scraps of fabric came from my sewing group and these scraps were going to be trash! I have given these a new life.

How to make a Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Day #8 of #junkjournaljuly and I’m sharing How to make a Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal. Using Brutus Monroe Stamps & Inks, some fun paper, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and my Chameleon Pens.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

When I was thinking about this project, How to make a Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal I decided that I would finally use up a paper pack from Deja Views that I’ve had for a very long time. I picked this up at Big Lots a few years ago, ahem. I am not a hoarder. LOL But today it is getting a few pages used.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Supplies for How to make a Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal:
Brutus Monroe Stamp sets: Brutus and FriendsSnap

Dog Days paper pad from Deja Views
Chameleon Pens
Scrapbook paper, Ivory Cardstock from Canvas Corp Home Basics
Random papers; dictionary page, coloring book page, designer paper and old book pages

Large sewing needle for bookbinding. Can use a large upholstery needle
Waxed Linen Thread
Scissors
Jumbo Paper Clips
Awl

Making a Junk Journal is a great gift idea. Sometimes it is hard to buy for some people as they have everything they need, but a fun Junk Journal would be something unique. You could give it ready to be written in, or you could write a story and add photos and give it as a completed journal.

Here is a video for How to make a Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal.

Using my MISTI and the Brutus Monroe stamps I created a scene on a scrap of Ivory Cardstock from Canvas Corp Home Basics. I even made a mask of little Bruno using a scrap of copy paper and a Zig Two Way Glue Pen. Think of a sticky note, that is what Zig Two Way Glue can do to a piece of paper. In this case, it will hold the image in place while I use distress inks and sprays on the paper.

It is a blessing to have a supportive husband and I’m so thankful that he purchased the Chameleon Pens for me at Valentines Day. I’m still learning how to use these pens, but it is so much fun.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

The measurements of this journal is 8.25 inch tall by 4.25 inch wide, with 12 sheets of paper to make 48 pages for this Travelers Notebook Insert. I cut my papers to be 8.25 inches tall by 8.5 inches wide or if I’m using 12 inch x 12 inch scrapbook paper I’ll sometimes leave a flap that can fold out. Good to have extra writing space right?

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Once I have all of the papers cut and folded I then embellish. This is where the MISTI comes in handy again. I position the folded page and place the stamps I want to use on top in the MISTI. Then I’ll stamp each page that I want to have that image. In this journal, I did two different stamp image sets. I think it turned out super cute.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

After the pages have been stamped I spray with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. I love how it adds color to the pages that may be white or ivory. I used shades of green as I thought dogs would want to be running free on grass.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

For the cover of the book, there was an embossed heart with dog print cardstock that I thought was super cute. Do you have a Dymo Label maker? This is a super handy tool when you want to create a phrase and don’t have the stamps to create it. The Dymo Label maker is so easy to use and I love the texture it gives a project. For the cover, I layered a scrap out of an old book, some scrap cardstock and a small portion of a dictionary page on the front. I used Washi Tape and then sewing to embellish.

Dog Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Once the cover and the pages have been created I then bind using Waxed Linen Thread and a bookbinders needle. I use a Pamphlet stitch to hold the pages together.

Depending on my mood will determine if I embellish the pages before I bind the book or after. I like to have the pages flat and easy to add items. But sometimes You don’t know how the placement will work unless the book is bound. I do a little of both.

Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Continuing with my #junkjournaljuly I’ve created a Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal for July 6th. My idea was to share how I decorate a Travelers Notebook. Adding the ephemera and tuck spots as well as stamping.

Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

This Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal measures 8.25 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide when closed. It has 15 sheets of paper folded in half for a total of 60 pages.

A few of the Items used inside this Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal
7Gypsies Architextures – Trinkets – Seashore Decor
Creative Stamping Magazine Issue 43 Stamp set
Cheese Cloth
Old Calendar images
Various papers – Map, textured, coloring book pages, graph paper, cardstock, mop up paper, notebook paper and scrapbook paper. There isn’t a limit to the type of paper you use.
Sewing Machine
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Blue Bubbles, Denim Blue
Waxed Cotton Cord from Canvas Corp Home Basics
Brutus Monroe Detail Ink and Cornflower Surface Ink
MISTI
Note cards
Navy & Ivory Chevron is from Canvas Corp Brands

Here is a video showing How to make the Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal.

Isn’t the 7Gypsies Architextures – Trinkets – Seashore Decor a perfect touch for the cover? I added a some Brutus Monroe Surface ink – Cornflower on top of the Welcome Mermaid. It deepened the color. I just love the texture.

For this Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal, I decided to pull some blue scrapbook papers from my stash. These pages reminded me of the water and I knew that the print was light enough of several of the pages to be written upon.

Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

As always I like using up scraps that I have on hand. I made tags out of Navy & Ivory Chevron is from Canvas Corp Brands paper. I sewed a scrap of dictionary paper on top that had been sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and stamped with Let your dreams set sail. After punching a hole in the top of the tag I added Waxed Cotton Cord from Canvas Corp Home Basics. Doesn’t it feel like something Nautical?

Nautical Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

My friends are such a big blessing to me. One year a friend got a beautiful daily travel calendar. There are so many beautiful images in this calendar and he was throwing away the pages when the days were done. I asked if I could have those and I’m so glad I saved these from 2006! Tell your friends to save these items for you to use.

I’m so glad that I purchased the Creative Stamping Magazine Issue 43 Stamp set
from Barns and Noble. I’m loving the nautical themed stamps that came with the magazine. I used the heart knot rope on the tops of several pages. My MISTI sure comes in handy to get precise stamping every time.

How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

It was requested by one of my followers to show How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal. This is a simple journal using items I had on stash and without embellishment.

The idea of a junk journal is to use items that may be considered junk to others and even trash. Some like to say, I just picked up a bunch of junk and put it together. There is no wrong way to make a junk journal. The key is to have fun. No stress here.

How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

This Travelers Notebook insert measures 8.25 tall by 4.25 wide. Fits standard Travelers Notebook covers. It has 12 pages for a total of 48 pages.

How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Here is a video of How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal. It took about 20 minutes for me to make the journal, that is after I cut the papers.

A junk journal is a great way to use up those papers in your stash that may not be ideal for other projects. I’ll pick scrapbook paper that I may not be totally in love with the design and use that as a page. When it has writing, photos or ephemera on top it fades into the background and then I fall in love with how it turns out.

How to make a Simple Blue Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Tell your friends to save those calendars, old magazines and junk mail for you. You will be amazed at what they will save and you can use in junk journals. I’ve been collecting items for well over 25 years so I have a nice stash. It’s still fun to get a package from someone with goodies. 😉

My goal this month is to make a journal every day. Here is today’s Share your story Travelers Notebook Junk Journal. Follow along with the #junkjournaljuly to see other journals made this month.

Share Your Story Travelers Notebook Junk journal

This Share your story Travelers Notebook Junk Journal measures 8.25 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide. It has 12 sheets of paper for a total of 48 pages.

Here is a video flip through of Share your story Travelers Notebook Junk Journal and a couple of tips on stamping inside.

It has a variety of items included. Used an image from Calico Collage Natures Glory on top of a 7gypsies printed cardstock for the cover. I love adding a little bit of sewing to the cover.

Just like most of my junk journals the Share your story Travelers Notebook Junk Journal has lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists added to the pages.

I also used some stamps from Brutus Monroe. The first one I used is Life is Art from the Be Brave set. I really like this stamp set with the beautiful words. One of the other stamps I used is a border stamp from Fancy Borders. When working in a Travelers Notebook it is perfect to add on the pages.

Papers used for pages: Coloring book page from a Dollar Tree coloring book. I found that I like the full page images that when these are folded over you can still make out a pattern.

A page from a daily tear-off desk calendar. One of my former coworkers saved these for me and I love the beautiful colorful images.

Part of a large color map. These were also given to me years ago. I love how it gives added color to the journal. Like you saved the map from travels and had to include it in the journal.

Share Your Story Travelers Notebook Junk journal

Wrapping paper was also used. It is the one that is gold with hearts and flowers. Old wrapping paper is a great way to add a little bit of color to a journal.

A variety of scrapbook papers were used. I love the cardstock papers from Canvas Corp Home Basics I used the Orange & Ivory Chevron as I thought it would be cool to write on the page in a whimsical way.

Other papers, graft paper, mop up sheet from my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist spray box. And even wallpaper.

There are so many things that can be used in a Junk Journal. Have fun selecting items to make into the journal.

Peacock Junk Journal Elements

Been working on Peacock Junk Journal Elements. These are the items that will fill a junk journal as journal spots and tuck spots. I have found that if I sit down and make a bunch of these elements and then begin the junk journal it doesn’t take near as long.

Peacock Junk Journal Elements

The inspiration to make these elements with a Peacock theme came to me when I found a roll of peacock feather ribbon. I love the glitter on the ribbon and how bright the colors are as well.

There are 28 elements in this pack of Peacock Junk Journal Elements. Here is a video where I share the elements.

When I was at Canvas Corp Brands a couple of months ago I picked up a junk pack that included beautiful flocked paper.  I just knew that these would be perfect inside a junk journal or on greeting cards.

Found a pretty sparkly teal ribbon as well. Pairing the ribbons with the paper came out beautifully.

Peacock Junk Journal Elements

Using pages out of an old book I made a few tuck spots. One is a layered piece that has a hidden tuck spot built into the ribbon. Used PinkOddBird’s technique of a Potucelope that she shared on YouTube. These are super cute and easy to make. The little notepads came about from scraps from another junk journal element I made a while back. I’m so glad that I save the bits even if others might think they are too small to use.

Peacock Junk Journal Elements

An investment that I’m glad I made is buying different types of dies so that I could make tuck spots and journal spots with the shapes. One of my favorites is a butterfly. It comes as two layers but I only cut the solid image.

Peacock Junk Journal ElementsTrying to use up all of the scraps I made embellished paper clips. It is easy to fold over the paper and add a piece of the beautiful sparkly teal ribbon with a bit of sewing. It is such a pleasure to be able to use my sewing machine in my paper arts projects. These are perfect Peacock Junk Journal Elements to use in the next junk journal.

Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit

I’m going through my stash and decided I would make a Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit. The paper has flocking in the black areas and it feels so wonderful to touch.

Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit

One of the things that takes a while to put together in a Junk Journal is the elements or embellishments. I like to have a stack of items ready to go so that I’m not spending a lot of time trying to make things when I want to finish a journal.

Digging around in my stash I found the paper that I got in a junk pack from Canvas Corp Brands and knew these would make beautiful elegant embellishments for a junk journal.

I’m so glad that I moved one of my sewing machines into my paper art studio. I have it on my right side ready to be used anytime. Before I would have to go into another room or move a ton of things in order to use the sewing machine.

Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit

Since the sewing machine is handy it makes it easy to sew papers together and I did so for this Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit.

I also found some beautiful beaded eyelash trim in my stash. I thought it would be pretty on a tall journaling card, and I’m right. It is beautiful and adds to that tactile feeling.

Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit

There are nineteen elements in the kit. Die cut shapes which include a large butterfly and doily. Tiny punched butterflies are perfect to add to the strings in a journal or to enhance a page or make another embellishment.

Black and White Junk Journal Embellishment Kit

Library style pocket with a journal spot is also included. I added lined notebook paper to the tag and I think it looks so elegant.

I have made up three of these kits for sale in my shop. The price includes shipping.

Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Sharing an Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal featuring Canvas Corp Brands cardstock and Calico Collage Natures Glory digital images. Also used in this junk journal, acrylic paint, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Brutus Monroe Stamps and Ink, Washi tape, wallpaper samples, bits of lace and fabric, old computer punch cards, a coloring book page and more.

Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

Standard Travelers Notebook measuring 8.25 in tall x 4.25 wide. Tied with a piece of lace seam binding and it can be removed from the journal if wanted. There are twelve sheets of paper for a total of 48 pages.

A video flip-through of Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal.

Recently I picked up a set of Orange papers from Canvas Corp Brands. I though these paired with the Natures Glory digital images from Calico Collage would go together nicely.

Once I had the pages cut to the size I wanted I used the leleftoverits to make journaling cards or tuck spots.

Ripping pages out of an old book is so much fun and even better is to turn these into new pages for a junk journal. I did this with two sets of pages in the journal. First I take two pages and add washi tape to attach and reinforce the center. Next I used some tissue paper, gesso and some Ranger sprays that I had in my stash. I used the same stencil on both of the sets so that there was some cohesiveness in the Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal.

While digging through my stash of items I found some really cool computer punch cards. These were given to me years ago and I hadn’t used but a few, These made perfect journaling cards for the journal. A few I painted, added bits of paper, wallpaper, and sewing. Of course they also have Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists added too.

Another item I found in my stash was popcorn bags. The old fashion paper type. I decided to paint the front with gesso and attach a floral napkin and a little more gesso on top.  These were then used as inserts in the journal. One I attached to a page so that there is the bag to add items into and the behind is a tuck spot.

Wallpaper samples are great go use as pages in junk journals too. For the Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal I decided to add a couple of wallpaper items. Die cutting the wallpaper for a corner tuck spot turned out pretty. I love the flowers on the wallpaper.

Several of the Calico Collage images were added into this junk journal with washi tape and some with sewing. Many of the images flip out so that journaling can be done on the back side.

There is even a Lavender Sachet included in this journal. It has real lavender flowers enclosed in paper and tulle. I love how it smells.

Holding this Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal in my hands makes me happy. I love the texture and colors on the pages. Sometimes when I look at what I created I think: “Did I make that?” I feel I have grown as an artist and have learned a lot.

Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal

My hope is that you are inspired by my Orange Natures Beauty Travelers Notebook Junk Journal and make one of your own. It is a lot of fun and there is no wrong way to make a junk journal. Use what you have and have fun.

Handmade Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal

Handmade Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal, I made using the Calico Collage digital images – Pink Grace. Also used, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Scrapbook papers,

Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal

Video Flip through of the Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal.

This handmade journal has 3 signatures of 10 pages for a grand total of 120 pages. It Measures 5.25 x 7.5 x 2 inches.

There are 9 embellished paper clips in this Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal.

For this journal, I tried to keep a theme throughout even the folded pockets that are inside. There are about 12 different folded paper pockets or tuck spots added to this journal.

So that there was plenty of room to write notes there are 4 mini journals tucked in pockets throughout this journal.

Used several different Spiritual stamps throughout.  These were stamped in either Tim Holtz Distressed ink or if black it was Brutus Monroe Detail Ink.

The smaller color printed images are also from Calico Collage – Bible Verses domino size images. I cropped three images that I felt matched the color in the Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal. These were printed as a photo sheet of nine images which made these larger than the domino images.

Other journal spots were from Calico Collage and are free to use. These were the Vintage Seed Packets, and I altered the colors to match the Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal.

I was glad to be using up more of my scraps of paper from my stash. The scraps were used in the die cut images and tuck spots in this journal.

Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist were sprayed on every page. I love how it gives a beautiful shimmer to the pages, don’t you?

The cover of this journal is a scrap of canvas from Canvas Corp Brands. I sprayed the canvas with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to change the color to match the journal. I did the same with the strips used as ties for the journal.

This Pink Grace Prayer Junk Journal would be a great gift to give to someone you love. You could write notes in this journal and then give it as a gift. Several of my friends have been making journals like this to give to their daughters.

Pink Grace Junk Journal

Welcome to my blog as I share a Pink Grace Junk Journal I made using the Calico Collage digital images – Pink Grace. Also used, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Scrapbook papers, and Brutus Monroe Botanical Banners Rose stamp.

Pink Grace Junk Journal

This Pink Grace Junk Journal has three signatures of 10 pages for a grand total of 120 yummy pages to enjoy. There is three fold out pages I made by adding a page out of an old book with washi tape.

For this Pink Grace Junk Journal, I stamped a lot of Rose images from my stash of stamps.

Did you know that you can edit the images from Calico Collage? Since the images come as jpg files you can import the images into a photo editing software and alter these images.

I wanted more journal cards so I cropped one of the images and then had my printer put 9 on a page. That makes these images about 2.5 x 3.5 in size and are perfect to tuck into the journal here and there.

Also used in the Pink Grace Junk Journal are some of the free downloads from Calico Collage. I altered these images by turning the dark brown around the edges pink. The images I used are the Seed packets.

There are nine pockets made from old books, three of these are from an old dictionary. I love finding ways to use these old pages that are from old damaged books.

It was fun to dig around in my stash and find scraps of paper to stamp images or die cut into shapes. Every time I make a junk journal I’m making a dent in all of this paper I’ve been saving for years.

Back in January, I picked up some hemp cord. I like using this cord for the binding of my junk journals. I used a pretty pink Hemptique Cord for the Pink Grace Junk Journal. I think I’ll be on the look out for more Hemp cord to add to my stash.

The cover is canvas from Canvas Corp Brands. This was one of the grab bags of canvas. Lots of big pieces are in this grab bag for such a low price.

Here is a flip through video of the Pink Grace Junk Journal.

Making these junk journals are a lot of fun for me. I hope you enjoy seeing what I create.
