Speed Watercolor Painting Paint & Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

Sharing my Speed Watercolor Painting Paint & Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist project.

I decided to play with watercoloring because of a Facebook post that one of my friends shared. She was working on a journal page swap and watercolored. Not only did she watercolor she also doodled on the page to give it another step of texture.

Looking around in my stash of art supplies I realized I didn’t have watercolor paints. Well not paints I wanted to use for this project. Watercolor paints are just paints watered down, so I thought I’ll just use acrylic paint.

Armed with watercolor paper, water and acrylic paint it was time to begin. Deciding that my watercolor paper should be mounted while I paint I used a large ceramic tile. Masking tape was used to keep the paper in place. What I should have used was a low tack tape, but I was using what I had on hand.

Since I knew I wanted shimmer on this painting I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. Glimmer Mist adds just a touch of sparkle, it makes me smile.

The circle in the middle was from a glass candle holder that I dipped into black acrylic paint. The saying is a stamp from Stampin Up. I used Black Stazon Ink to stamp the sentiment.

Because I used the wrong kind of tape to hold down my paper, when I removed it, the paper tore. To hide the damage I created a mat using cardstock, a ruler and a kraft knife.

Framed art brings joy to me. That is why I used a small five by seven frame to display this piece of watercolor.

This Speed Watercolor Painting Paint & Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist has now given me a bug. More watercolor paintings were made and I know more are to come.

This was a fun medium to work with today. Have you tried working with Watercolors? Let me know your thoughts.

Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge

This post is all about the Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge.

The idea was to create anything that was all black. “Create a project that is 90% black – the other 10% can only be white, grey, or metallic.”

To begin with I found an old canvas that I had on hand. This canvas had a hole punched in it and I knew I wouldn’t use it for another project.

Gathering up lots of black items I had a nice pile on my work desk. Where to begin…

Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge

I didn’t have any black gesso so I sorta made a grey gesso. Since I didn’t have any black gesso I mixed white gesso with black paint. What I should have done is made the gesso from scratch. But for now I’ll keep the grey as I can still use it in projects.

The focal piece was a Christmas ornament. Finding the glitter covered deer gave me the perfect item to use as the focal point. Which is important to have in an art piece.

Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge

The Canvas Corp Brands mixed media pack is a great resource for this project. I pulled Tissue paper, burlap and scrapbook paper from the pack.

Have you seen those little sets of LED lights in the craft stores? Christmas is a great time to find these lights and if you are lucky you can get them on sale.

Recently I’ve gotten two new toys. One is a Silhouette CAMEO® 3 and the other is a Circut Explorer Air. With these two new toys I was able to cut the words and poinsettias.

The Silhouette design “Ornate Frame” paired with the Samantha font helped me create the phrase Believe in the Magic. I used the Cricut Joys of the Season cartridge Poinsettia, altering the image by adding more layers and changing the sizes of the petals.

If you haven’t figured out yet I really love tools and gadgets. I also have the Tim Holtz Vagabond and I used this to cut the Sizzix Trees. It might be hard to tell but there are six trees on the canvas.

This was a good challenge for me, to think outside of the box and make up an art piece that used black as the foundation. I enjoyed making this and now I’m planning on another project that I want to make similar to this piece.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

This post is all about Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. The current weekly challenge is to go back and choose a previous challenge. Looking back through the challenges was fun. It was a hard decision but I finally found one that I wanted to use, from the May 2016 challenge.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Digging around in my stash of dies I found the label or note die from Stampin Up and an old Star die from Sizzix. I knew that these would be perfect for this project.

Thankful that I have a stash of chipboard in my studio, I die cut one of each. Using acrylic paint I covered the star until it was coated to my liking. Once the paint was dry I then sprayed with Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays – Zest – Brutus|Monroe and a gold/copper Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

When the spray dried I used the MISTY to help with positioning the poinsettia from the Sketched Holiday Set – Brutus|Monroe. Stamped with the Brutus|Monroe embossing ink, then gold embossing powder.

A technique I like to use, take a Zig two way glue pen and go around the edge of the star, then dip into gold embossing powder. Heat the powder until it shines gold.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Time to tackle the label or note die from Sizzix. Because this is for the Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and I have decided to use more than one die. Taking the Mini Chalk Ink pad Suede from Brutus|Monroe I went around the edge.

I just love the Tissue paper from Canvas Corp Brands, found in a mixed media pack. Tearing a strip and using white glue I glued a strip at a diagonal on the label die. Then filled the corners with additional strips. Sprayed with Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays – Zest and a gold/copper Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels, I love the shimmer it adds.

Reapply the Mini Chalk Ink pad Suede around the edges and between the strips. While the ink is still moist on the paper dip into gold embossing powder and heat. This really makes such a beautiful background, makes me think of a gilded box that has aged.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Tied a bow out of a cream and gold ribbon. Don’t forget to shop in the Christmas ornament isle the next time you go out. That is where I found the little gold and glitter stars. Using three of the stars and a glue dot I placed these at the top point of the star with the ribbon glued with white glue. The star was layered on top of a small strip of burlap, then the label. Last I used a gold embossed napkin.

This is a very elegant Christmas card and I feel that it was perfect for this Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

Here is a video of the process.

Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media

Today is all about Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media.

The blog over at Canvas Corp Brands has a challenge this month to decorate or make a mask. #7gypsies #tatteredangels #canvascorp #ccbmaskchallenge

For this project I chose The Colombina style of mask. I was in luck in finding a great buy on the mask at Michales, it was only $2.19 by Creatology.

Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media

One of my shopping trips scored a Mixed Media pack from Canvas Corp Brands and another from 7 Gypsies. Both of these packs had the beautiful tissue paper that I used on the mask. These same shopping trips increased my Tattered Angels Shimmer spray inventory too!

Once all of the supplies were gathered it was time to create. Now is when I found myself Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media. The vision was clear. One doesn’t realize how held back and reserved they are until set free to create. Usually I create items that I know will sell. My normal goal is to make something that others will want for a practical reason. Whimsy or decorative isn’t what I go for in creating art.

Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media

Have you ever felt that what you create is because that is what the world wants? How is it that we think that is what should always be done in life? When we were kids we were told to play and create. As adults we are told to stick to the agenda, stick to the plan, don’t go outside of the lines.

Art is about what is pleasing to the artist. At least that is my opinion. Create what you enjoy. Never worry about how others will react. Do you love it and want to keep creating? Then do what you love!

Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media

When the mask was before me and I started adding all of the elements I found I was free to explore. There wasn’t a need to worry about what will happen to this when I’m done. Joy, bliss and freedom to create were the thoughts and feelings I had.

Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media

The goal was to make something that I would love, and if I was lucky the staff at Canvas Corp Brands would love it too. Inspiration has struck and I feel like making another one of these masks. Once Unmasking My Creativity Through Mixed Media has begun, there is no stopping me now.

How to Decorate a Box

Today I want to share How to Decorate a Box using a few products from Brutus Monroe and Canvas Corp. Recently I became a member of the Inspiration Team with Brutus Monroe and I have acquired a few new products. Storage of these new products is important to me. I want to be able to find them and to keep the items neat. I had a nice sturdy box that I would use when I had a small project I was working on and wanted to keep everything together. This was the perfect opportunity for me to alter this box and transform it into something beautiful and functional.

The process was pretty easy if a little messy. It took a little over an hour to complete, and I think it could have taken less time, but I wasn’t sure what direction I was going. This was more of a play session, an opportunity to play with the products and get something pretty and useful at the same time.

I loved how the Canvas Corp paper took the sprays and transformed into a whole new paper. It may be time to order more of that paper! My local JoAnn’s had a paper pack, and I’m thankful that I found it there so I could play with all these yummy textures and prints.  Time to save some money so I can order a package or two.

How to Decorate a Box

Here is a list of some of the items I used:

Raven Detail Ink
Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays
Liquid Element Bundle
Monroe Painted Feather
Angel Wings Stamp Set
Canvas Corp Brands Mixed Media Pack

The key to a project like this, is to use what you have and you like. The box turned out pretty and I know that I will enjoy using the box as well as looking at it on a regular bases.

Here is a video of the whole process.

Do you have a box you want to alter? This would be a perfect opportunity to pull out those supplies and make it look the way you want it to look. Create your own ending!

Life. Live It. featuring 7 Gypsies and Tattered Angels

Today I want to share: Life. Live It. featuring 7 Gypsies and Tattered Angels. This project was because I picked up a mixed media pack of 7 Gypsies paper and a few bottles of Tattered Angels glimmer mists, all of these products are from Canvas Corp Brands.

There were all kinds of papers and some burlap in the mixed media package from 7 Gypsies so I knew I would find something to play with for a fun project. I decided that I would pull some of the zebra note cards that were in my package and cut them in half to make an ATC. An ATC also known as an Artist Trading card measures 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches in size. This is a perfect size to use up scraps of paper, or to try a new technique.

Digging through the package of mixed media paper I found some striped paper and a sheet of stickers. I then remembered that I have a set of label stamps from 7 Gypsies. Of course that caused me to play with the stamps for a while trying to decide which ones I wanted to use. These are the self inking kind and apparently I had not used these in a while so I had to reink and test. I was having fun testing.

Once I decided on which of the stamps I wanted to use, I pulled out some scrap paper and stamped a label and then used a circle punch. I used one of the glimmer mists to alter the zebra paper to have a purple shimmer.

While the Tattered Angels glimmer mist was drying I pulled out another piece of the 7 Gypsies paper and cut a piece of the striped paper for the card. Thinking of how I wanted the design to look I decided that I needed a couple more embellishments.  One was the scalloped edge circle punch from Stampin Up. I used the punch on black paper for my label. And then I found some black brads and some white rose trim.

White glue was used to adhere all of the layers together, adding pop dots under the label. I stamped an ATC label for the back so that it is ready to give away.

I’m very pleased with the selection of papers in the mixed media package from 7 Gypsies. I think I’ll get more of these packs in the future.

So what did you think of my project Life. Live It. featuring 7 Gypsies and Tattered Angels? Does this inspire you to pull out those small bits of papers and make an ATC? Love to see what you create.

Wanted to share what my work station looked like when I got done playing. lol
