Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements

It has been a few days since I did the Gel Press Play Time and now it is time to use the Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements. This project a was also prompted because I’m in a blog hop #thanks4watchingart on YouTube with a lot of very talented artists. Make sure that you visit each one to see their projects.

Gel Press Play Time

Using my new Gemini cutter from Crafters Companion with their dies I was able to sit and play for a while and turn the Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements. I love how intricate the dies cut even on thin papers.  Too many times in the past I would cut a die and it wouldn’t do a good job, but the Gemini cuts beautifully every time.

Here is a video showing how I took the Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements.

Supplies used today in this project Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements.

My method was to use the pages I had with the dies from Crafters Companion in the Gemini and see how it turned out.  Each print is unique, even when I used the same colors no two were the same, similar but not the same. I love this idea of making a bunch of prints and then using these for junk journal elements. It was fun to use the Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements.

Before you throw out those old papers and pages take a look at my Gel Press Play Time post and see if you can then turn these Gel Prints into Junk Journal Elements like I did.

Once you get started you won’t know when to stop. lol Have fun making your own.

Gel Press Play Time

Getting to go to Creativation 2018 in Phoenix AZ I got to attend a Gel Press workshop. This caused me to come home for some Gel Press Play Time and I thought I would share what I created. It wasn’t a planned project, just playing with Tattered Angels DIY Paint, Glimmer Mist and Ken Olivers Color Bursts.

Gel Press Play Time

The Gel Press is a cool tool to use for creating new pages out of old pages. I like the idea of covering up text on a book page. It gives it a new purpose. After a Gel Press Play Time, these papers can be used in journals and even written upon. I like how the thin layer of paints and sprays changes the paper and dries quickly.

Gel Press Play Time Gel Press Play Time

Supplies used in this Gel Press Play Time session.

  • 5 x 7 Gel Press plate – I picked on up in Hobby Lobby and used my 40% off coupon.
  • DIY paint from Tattered Angels, Sterling, and Cerelcan
  • Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Precious Metal, Tea Cup and Turquoise Blue
  • Ken Oliver’s Color Bursts
  • Bubble Wrap I had two sizes. These are great to save from packages
  • Shelf liner the bumpy kind – I found some at Tuesday Morning, but this could also be found at a dollar store.
  • old gift card or room key card
  • Book pages
  • Paint brushes or popsicle sticks to get the paint out of the jar.
  • Imagination

Here is a video of my Gel Press Play Time session.

My method of Gel Press Play Time was to lay out the gel press and apply paint. I started with the Tattered Angels DIY paint in Sterling and used bubble wrap to add some texture. Take a look around the house, you have lots of things that can be used for texture on a Gel Press.

Gel Press Play Time Gel Press Play Time

Using the Ken Oliver Color Bursts on the plate is a lot of fun. You never know what it will do and spraying it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists just adds another layer of yummy color.

Gel Press Play Time Gel Press Play Time

Press paper to the paint on the Gel Press, smooth with hands or a brayer, then pick up the paper. Each print will be different, but you can use the same colors to have a pack of papers for a project. Fun to have some matching papers to play with.

Gel Press Play Time Gel Press Play Time

When done playing you can clean the Gel Press by adding a layer of paint and pressing paper to it and leaving overnight. Or you can wash with water or even just wipe down with baby wipes. Just be gentle with the Gel Press so you don’t cut the surface. Put it back in the clamshell case without the plastic sheets and it will be ready to use later.

Gel Press Play Time

Sometimes you just need to sit and play. There is no plan but to have fun and try new things. Who knows maybe your Gel Press Play Time session can turn into some beautiful art.

Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima with Keren Tamir #Creativation2018

While at Creativation 2018 I got to spend time with Keren Tamir at the Prima booth. So I’m sharing Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima with Keren Tamir #Creativation2018 today. She shows how the new colors look and uses them to decorate a large tag. She was even kind enough to let me have the tag so I could have the example at home.

Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima

Here is a video that I took of her. Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima with Keren Tamir #Creativation2018 video.

There are three new sets of the Art Extravagance Rust Paste.

The photos of this texture paste when applied to a surface cannot really show you how this really looks. There is a lot of texture on these pieces and it truly looks like it was old metal rusting away.

Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima

I could see using this paste with stencils too. Keren has a pre-textured board that she applied the paste onto and you can see the texture underneath. There are so many ways that this can be used and from what I can see there isn’t a wrong way to use this paste. If you love it then use it. 😉

Art Extravagance Rust Paste at Prima

Thanks to Keren for taking the time to show the Art Extravagance – Rust Paste at Prima during Creativation 2018. I learned something new. Check out Keren’s Facebook Fan Page to see more of her amazing art.

What would you apply this awesome texture paste to in your projects? I could see this used on a great journal cover to give that amazing vintage, rusted look.

Tape Technologies Inc

While at Creativation 2018 I took a stroll and ended up at the Tape Technologies Inc booth. This stuff is amazing. So many wonderful colors that can be used for all kinds of projects. This vinyl has so many colors! They even have a removable line for those projects where you put it on windows or walls.

Tape Technologies Inc

While I was in the booth I had a little chat with the General Manager for Tape Technologies Inc then I got to sit and watch Sue Eldred create a super cute project. Here is a video of the interview and Sue making the cool project.

Touching this vinyl and seeing all the ways it can be used in projects really got me excited. I could see using this in so many ways, adding bling to a journal, making greeting cards, decorating glassware and so much more!

Check out Tape Technologies Inc website for more information and request a catalog be sent to you. Let them know how you found out about them when you make the request. I know that I’ll be getting a lot of this vinyl soon for my projects. Also, check out their Facebook page for updates on what is happening.

Book Page Altered Paperclip

I’m always looking for new ways to use book pages from books. Today I’m sharing a Book Page Altered Paperclip. Using the Fairy Garden Domino image from Calico Collage, Distress Ink, Aleen’s Tacky Glue, the No Clog Writing Cap from ScraPerfect and more I share how to make a Book Page Altered Paperclip.

Book Page Altered Paperclip

Supplies and tools used for making the Book Page Altered Paperclip

After collecting the supplies I created a video showing how I made the Book Page Altered Paperclip.

Isn’t this the cutest altered paperclip? So easy to make and makes a great embellishment for a Junk Journal or to add to a book. Make a lot to give as gifts, pop one inside a card for the recipient to use in their book.

Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial

The Friendly Junk Journal People Facebook group did a napkin swap a while back. This prompted me to create a Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial to show how to use all those wonderful napkins. This Napkin Junk Journal Page is a great mixed media project, using the napkin, acrylic paint and Tattered Angels Glam and Glimmer Mists.

Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial

The supplies used for the Napkin Junk Journal Page.

Once all the supplies were gathered I set up the camera to record the process. Here is the video I made for the Napkin Junk Journal Page.

The one tip that I feel is the most helpful is to use a fresh glue stick and apply it to the paper where you want the napkin to be applied. Go beyond where the napkin will be attached so that the whole edge gets adhered. Glue Sticks dry clear and they don’t leave a tacky residue so don’t worry about getting too much.

Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Try not to get any glue on the napkin, only on the page you are attaching and go slow to lay the napkin down. Try not to rub the napkin but pat it down lightly and press it onto the paper.

Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Creating a Napkin Junk Journal Page is a great way to use those beautiful napkins. I love how the napkin becomes one with the journal page and looks like it was printed instead of adhered.

Napkin Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Do you have a large stash of napkins? My stash isn’t huge, but I pick up a few here and there or I get a few as gifts. Hopefully, now I’ve given you another idea of how to use those beautiful napkins.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial Supply list

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial Video.

After collecting the items I attached the two sheets of watercolor paper together with washi tape on the back backside. This made a large sheet I could work on and then cut up later.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Stamp the images with Brutus Monroe Detail ink – Raven. Then adhere torn bits of the Damask Tissue paper and dictionary page.

Using the stencil made on the Cricut Explore Air I used the Chalk sprays to add color to the page.

Next applied the Glam and High Impact paint with some yellow acrylic paint with an old room key card in a random fashion.

Using a couple of stencils and gesso I then added a layer over the whole sheet.

Apply a little watered down glimmer mist or use a spray bottle of water then spray with Electric Blue Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist here and there.

Use PVA to attach the torn napkin all over.

Once this is dry – I used a heat tool to speed up the process. Apply the three different pink acrylic paints to create flowers around the torn napkin pieces. Creating whole new flowers.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Apply Cranberry Zing Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist with a paint brush over the flowers.

Seal the work with Krylon Matte Finish Spray – I took it outside as the fumes are not good to smell.

Then using a Pitt Pen made marks around the flowers to give more definition.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Remove the washi tape from the back and cut the two pages apart. Then cut down to 5 x 5.5 inch pieces.

I really love how these Mixed Media Crazy Pages turned out! There will be more I will be making! Soon I’ll show other projects using the scans I made of the pages.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Take time to play with your art supplies. There is no wrong way to enjoy making something beautiful. Try new things and don’t worry about how it turns out. It might look like a hot mess at first, but keep playing and before you know it you have a wonderful work of art.

Tutorial Decorating Notebook paper for Junk Journal Page

When making a junk journal I like to include notebook paper, more space to write. Today I’m sharing a Tutorial Decorating Notebook paper for Junk Journal Page. I’ll be using lots of products, Calico Collage Fairy Garden images, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and more. These pages are super easy and fast to make. It’s fun to sit and make several in one session.

Tip, open up a Composition Notebook to the very center. Some are stitched and others are stapled. Remove the stitching or staples and you will have a very long piece of paper and you can use it with the lines going in the correct direction.

I love creating a stack of pages like this for Junk Journals. It’s very relaxing to spray and stamp on the pages. Adding little bits from the current kit helps tie things together.

Do you like wide ruled or college ruled notebook paper? I think I like the wide ruled so I can write bigger, but if I have a lot to say the college ruled is better.

Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Journal cards are a great way to add more journaling space inside a junk journal. This post includes a Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card. Using Rubber Stamps, inks and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists I share how to decorate a guest check into a journal card.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Supplies used for Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card.

Video Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card.

Decorating a guest check for a journaling card is really simple and fast. Since I had the Rose Post Card stamp it made the design easy. Take a look around for a postcard stamp that you could use for your project. Even a plain postcard image and then overstamped with flowers would look wonderful.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

When I learned about the Fantastix I was opened up to another way to color images with ink pads that I own. I love the soft color that comes out from using the Fantastix. These tools work great with the Brutus Monroe Surface ink and the Tim Holtz Distress ink.

Blending the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink really helps give the guest check a vintage feel. It is easy to add a little or a lot to get the look you want.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Once all the coloring has been done I then love using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists over the guest check. The Precious Metal color has a soft pearl color that is very romantic to me.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Happy New Year everyone. Today I’m sharing a Happy New Year Junk Journal Page Tutorial. This Junk Journal Page is for the Friendly Junk Journal People Facebook group for a swap.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

The idea is that we all trade pages and then we can use these in our junk journals. The size of the pages are 8 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide is folded in half to make an 8 x 5.25 inch.

Supplies used in making the Happy New Year Junk Journal Page.

Video Tutorial for the Happy New Year Junk Journal Page.

This Happy New Year Junk Journal Page is super easy to create. Using a 12 x 12 sheet of scrapbook paper that has a light color or print that goes with your theme is helpful.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Using the Fiskars paper trimmer and a stylis score at the 8-inch mark down one side. Rotate the paper and score at 10.5 inches. Fold up the 4 inches at the bottom. Next, fold over the 1.5-inch flap to the smooth side of the paper. On the flap turn the corner of the lower flap down to give a finished edge. Fold the page in half with the 4-inch pocket at the bottom and now on the front of the page.

Now that the page has been folded you can now see where to decorate with stamps and the stencil. Once the page has been stamped and sprayed let it dry for a moment and then added lace to the flap and the pocket. I use a glue stick to hold the lace in place and then sew the lace on my sewing machine.

Adhere the flap and pocket to the page with the Best Glue Ever and set aside.

Assemble the words and numbers, add the rhinestones with the Best Glue Ever and Embellie Jellie. Adding flatback rhinestones to the project was so easy using ScraPerfects, Best Glue Ever and Embellie Gellie.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Attach the words and 2018 to the page with the Best Glue Ever. Then add the journal cards and tuck spot.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Making one of these junk journal pages is so much easier than trying to plan a whole journal at one time. I find that if I think about one page (it actually creates four pages when added to a journal) it is much easier for me.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

When you are out looking at paper take a look at the die cut sheets. there might be one that would make a great stencil to use with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.
