Winter Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Sharing a Tutorial for a Winter Junk Journal Page made for a swap inside Friendly Junk Journal People Facebook Group. Making these monthly pages are a lot of fun.

Winter Junk Journal Page

The concept is that a page measuring 8 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide is folded in half to make an 8 x 5.25 inch page that can be added to a junk journal. The group decided that it was easier to swap pages than a whole journal. Each person will have pages they can add to a junk journal or they can make one junk journal with all the pages.

Here is a video Tutorial Winter Junk Journal Page.

Items used for this Winter Junk Journal Page

The method for this page is very simple. Choose a page that has an area that can be cut into a pocket. Cut the corner and adhere this piece to scrap of paper. My pages are printed on standard copy paper and I wanted the pocket to be thicker.

Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Use the Brutus Monroe Surface ink – Sea and the Ranger Blending Tool to add color to the edges of this cut piece.

Adhere the main page with a glue stick to another scrap paper to give a finished backside to the page and to give a foundation where the corner was cut free.

Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Sew lace on the edge of the pocket. Then Sew the pocket on the page. I went ahead and sewed all around the page.

Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Assemble the page. Prior to the video, I created altered paperclips and journal cards using Calico Collage Simply Winter junk journal kit.

Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial

Welcome my friends, today I’m sharing a Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial. This pocket was in the Let it Snow Junk Journal and I made extras for the Simply Winter Junk Journal kits. I thought I would share How I made it so others could make their own Junk Journal Pocket.

Supplies used for the Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial

Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial

The method used in this Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial is very simple. Take a page out of an old book. I’ve even used books from the Dollar Tree. Fold the book in half from top to bottom. Turn down one corner and adhere in place.

Using a Snowflake Stencil (I made the stencil myself using my Circut and a snowflake image and cut on Transparency film.) Spray with both colors of Tattered Angels Mists.

Once the page is dry (can use a heat tool if necessary) take to the sewing machine. Stitch around the outside edges to add a touch of zig-zag stitches.

Next using the Calico Collage Vintage Holiday charm image, a few punched shapes and some sheet music decorate the pocket. I even used some blue eyelash yarn for cool texture.

To put in the pocket I made a tag using Canvas Corp Brands Canvas an index card and more of the Tattered Angels Mists.

After watching the Junk Journal Pocket Tutorial I know you will make a lot of these fun and beautiful pockets.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Hello everyone. Today I’m sharing the following Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal. One of my followers requested that I make a custom junk journal for her. The requirements she had were, dragonflies, hedgehogs, nature, eagles, earth tones – brick and burgundy reds, olive and moss green, and golden yellows.

So using the list of things she liked and knowing the list of things she didn’t want I proceeded to pull items and share with her what I was thinking. She came back with feedback on the items she loved and wanted more of and we changed directions once. Once I had all the elements I set to work on the journal.

Here is a flip through video of the Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal.

Loir Louise is her name and she said she loved to color. That gave me the idea to make a lot of little journal cards that she could color and then write on the backside.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

I used the Dragonfly Delight journal kit from Calico Collage. This kit has a lot of teal and pink. Using distress inks and a blending tool I was able to alter the colors and add more golds, reds and darker greens. It really changed the look of the pages.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Also used a few pages from the Gypsy Love journal kit from Calico Collage. The deeper greens and reds and gold I thought went perfectly with the other pages. I also liked that these pages were a different size so it gave some added interest to the journal.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Since she liked autumn colors and dragonflies I used two of my custom stencils. Wanting to have stencils that fit my pages and had themes I liked I used my Cricut. Cutting each page to be the correct size and have images I liked. No one else will have these stencils thus making my junk journals unique. Lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists were used on the pages.

Other elements used in the Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal was the floral fabric. To add interest here and there I cut one-inch strips of the fabric and then sewed on the pages, journal cards, and other elements.

Making this Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal was a lot of fun for me. Being able to pull my stamps down and give them a good workout made me smile.

Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil

Have you played with Transfer Foils yet? Today I’ll show you a Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil applied to the cover. Using ScraPerfect’s Transfer Foil, Best Glue Ever and Best Cleaner Ever I’ll show you how easy it is to apply Transfer Foils to your projects.

Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil

Supplies used on the Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil

Best Glue Ever.
Transfer Foils, I used solid red.
Best Cleaner Ever.
Foam Brush
Old Rag
Book Binders Needle
Waxed Linen Thread
Fiskars Scissors
Ribbon
Calico Collage Golden Christmas digital journal kit.

Video Tutorial showing the Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil applied. This video also shows how to bind a Junk Journal using a pamphlet stitch and then a flip through of the journal.

To create this Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil, I began with applying the Best Glue Ever to a foam brush and then on the rubber stamp. Press the stamp to the desired area and let air dry for a minute or two.

While the glue is drying on the project clean the stamp with the Best Glue Ever. Only a small amount is needed and spread with your finger to cover the surface. Wipe clean with a towel.

The stamped image should be tacky to the touch. Apply the Transfer Foil over the image and rub with fingers. It only takes a moment and the foil will stick to the image. Lift the transfer foil sheet and admire the beautiful foil.

Once cover of the Christmas Junk Journal with Transfer Foil was complete I then bound the journal using a pamphlet stitch.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Since March I’ve been asking Norella from Calico Collage for a Dragonfly Junk Journal kit. Well, she made one and I finally got time to make it into a journal and made three journal kits as well.

Dragonfly Junk JournalDragonfly Junk Journal

This Dragonfly Junk Journal measures 6 x 8.5 inches with a 1.5 inch spine. There are 3 signatures with a total of 19 sheets of paper to make a total of 76 pages. The cover is fabric over chipboard and a little glitter tule sewed on top. Love the dragonfly broach I attached to the cover. It can be removed and worn. 🙂

Dragonfly Junk Journal

I made the dragonfly journal charms, here is the blog post with all the details on how to make a dragonfly journal charm. This is one of my favorite styles of journal charms to make, I can detach from the journal and where it on a necklace or attach to other items.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Here is a flip through video of the Dragonfly Junk Journal and the kits I made.

Using Dragonfly Delight by Calico Collage for the images was such a joy. When Norella told me the kit was ready I was over the moon! The images she created and used are so wonderful. Love the colors too! Also used the Domino and Bottle Cap Dragonfly Delight images.

While out shopping I found the beautiful fabric with the flowers and butterflies and knew that it was a perfect match for this Dragonfly Junk Journal.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

For the journal cards inside this Dragonfly Junk Journal, I wanted different styles and sizes. It was fun to make different journal cards to have variety inside this journal.

Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal

Sewing lace on the edges of the pages really does add a little something special.  I love using the zig-zag stitch over the lace.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Since I didn’t have a dragonfly stencil I made two using my Cricut and transparency film. It was easy to make, found silhouette image of a dragonfly, duplicated and turned the images to make a random pattern and told the Cricut Explore Air to cut. Now I have a stencil I can use over and over!

Because the Simply Winter journal Kits were such a great hit I decided to make three Dragonfly Junk Journal kits. These kits have over 90 pieces and include the items necessary for the cover and inside pages.

Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal

For the most part, the journals have the same elements, these might have different images but the same amount of pages and journal cards inside these Dragonfly Junk Journal Kits.

Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk JournalDragonfly Junk Journal

Used a lot of Tulip Glitter paint on this junk journal. The glimmer it adds to the images is so pretty. Of course, I have to use lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists inside this Dragonfly Junk Journal and the kits too.

Making the Dragonfly Junk Journal and kits allowed me to use lots of my dragonfly stamps. I love seeing the images on the pages.

Custom Gypsy Junk Journal

A month ago I was contacted by one of my followers and asked to make a Custom Gypsy Junk Journal. Using the list of items she liked and didn’t like, I created the journal. Used journal kits from Calico Collage – Gypsy Love and Nature’s Glory along with other items from my stash.

Custom Gypsy Junk Journal

What I enjoyed about this journal was dying the lace with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Lately, I have found that it is better if I purchase white lace and change the color with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. That way I can make it match my project.

Custom Gypsy Junk Journal

This Custom Gypsy Junk Journal has lots of colors throughout. I love how the pages look with the addition of lace, stamping and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.

Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever

Have you ever had a craft catastrophe? Today I want to share cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever when tragedy strikes in your crafting.

Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever

A few years ago I was working with caulk near my sewing machine. Well, the device or caulking gun went crazy and pushed out caulk all over the place and some landed on my sewing machine. I quickly tried to wipe it up but it dried fast and I couldn’t get it all.

After trying all kinds of things to clean my machine I gave up. It has bothered me on and off over the years and when I got my ScraPerfect box of goodies I thought, hey why not try the Best Cleaner Ever?

The Best Cleaner Ever: Earth-Friendly Solvent for removing adhesive, ink, paint, and other stubborn stuff! It is Non-Toxic, Non Hazardous, Biodegradable and there are no harmful fumes.

Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever

Squirting a small amount on the area and spreading it around with my fingers I then let it sit for about an hour. It was easy to see that it was working some of the thinner areas of caulk was coming off.

Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever

To help remove more of the caulk I used an old key card to scrap a little and applied a little more of the Best Cleaner Ever.

When I wiped off the machine I was amazed at how clean it looked! Granted the machine is over 25 years old, but in the area where the caulk had been, it was new looking!

Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever

Here is a video showing Cleaning with the Best Cleaner Ever.

Make sure you pick up a bottle of this magical product, it really is The Best Cleaner Ever. Now I’m off to go try cleaning a few other things in the house.

What is the best thread for binding junk journals?

Since I’ve been on this Junk Journal adventure the following question is asked a lot. What is the best thread for binding junk journals? This post will share what is the best thread that I use. It will also show other examples of the thread you can use for binding a junk journal.

best thread for binding junk journals

Video sharing what is the best thread for binding junk journals, and the different types of threads including the ones I prefer to use.

What is the best thread for binding junk journals?
Waxed Linen Thread is my first choice.
Crochet Thread
Bakers Twine
and in a pinch embroidery floss – use all six strands.

There are a lot of different threads on the market these days. Choose the one that is best for you and your budget.

I prefer waxed linen thread as it is strong and hold my journals together nicely. I’ve been using waxed linen thread for many years and I’ve not had an issue with it breaking.

Now that you know What is the best thread for binding junk journals, what is the next junk journal you will make? Me I’m still working on Christmas projects.
