Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal

I’m finally home for a little while from doing a couple of trips and two workshops one in Jan and the other in Feb. I decided to make an Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal, well actually three from the leftover supplies from my last workshop in Baton Rouge LA. I had a great time with the ladies that attended.

It was a great workshop too as all three ladies hadn’t done the style of a journal we made. Two had never made a junk journal at all. So it was a lot of fun to show them how to put it together and all three went home with a completed journal.

Since Norella the owner and designer of Calico Collage were attending I asked her what her favorite kit would be to make. She said she liked the Dragonfly Delight Kit. So that is what I prepared for the workshop. By printing, cutting, adding embellishments and creating kits.

When I have a workshop I try to have a couple extra kits just in case someone comes that we didn’t expect. Or if I want to make part of the journal in the workshop. This time I had enough for three journals.

Here is a flip through video of the Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal. I also show the covers other two, but not a flip through of all three. If interested in purchasing one check out my shop.

Since I stay super busy I decided I would make all three pretty much the same as the workshop but I would make it a soft cover. Making a three signature 15 and up page journal takes a lot more time to construct than a single signature with a soft or cardstock cover.

The purple cardstock I used for the cover was given to me. A friends mother moved out of her home and took all that would fit in her two bedroom apartment. When I got to the house there was still at least a full room of supplies that were going in a dumpster. So I took what I thought I could use. This was paper left over from making wedding invitations I think.

If you didn’t already know I love using Tulip Dimensional Glitter Fabric paint. This paint leaves beautiful sparkle on projects. I also like cost, being under $5.00. It does take a little bit longer to dry, but it is so worth waiting.

For a few months now I have been using the domino images as embellishments. I really like the Dragonfly Delight Domino images. These have a lot of color and beautiful images. These just so happened to fit a punch I picked up and I was also able to create a cut file in my Silhouette Cameo 3 to mat the dominos.

I’ve also been using some of the one-inch circles and used the Dragonfly Delight 1 inch circles in this Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal.

This time I wanted to have lots of color in the Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal. I didn’t want to stay with just teal or pink. But instead, I wanted to use as many colors as I could.

Glitter cardstock was found to match the colors of the Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal. The glitter makes me smile when I see it in the elements. First I used my Cricut Explore Air to cut little dragonfly boarders. Then with what was left I used a paper punch and made dragonflies. Then I used a Tim Holtz heart paper punch to get as many as possible out of what was left. LOL I really did use it all.

Making journals like this Inspire Dragonfly Junk Journal makes me so happy. I’m getting to play with so many wonderful products and tools and create something beautiful. This is my passion and I’m so glad that I finally found the one that makes me the happiest.

Tutorial Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

With the end of 2017 it is time to get a new planner for 2018 and I decided to make one. Sharing a Tutorial Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal. This Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal is made using Digital Images from Calico Collage – Dragonfly Delight. A Dollar Tree planner, bullet journal and monthly dividers from a 2017 Happy Planner.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Collecting a few of the following for this Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal.

Here is a video Tutorial Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal.

To make this Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal I began with taking apart the bullet journal. This is where a Xacto knife comes in handy. When you locate the start of the signature it is easy to pull the book apart.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Next, take the staple out of the Dollar Tree Planner. Then cut the pages down the spine because this was a one signature book and the pages need to be broken up into a three signature book.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Composition book pages are sewn to the calendar side of the Happy Planner monthly tabs. The top and bottom are sewn down and that makes pockets on each page.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

When printing the Calico Collage Dragonfly Delight pages I print lines on the back side. Then use the handmade dragonfly stencil and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists on the back side of the pages.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

While the stencil and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists are out, apply to the bullet journal pages.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Use Distress Inks to stamp Dragonflies and quotes on the pages. I like how it adds another element to each page.

Acrylic paint was applied to the book pages with an old credit card. When the paint is spread thin with the card it allows the words to be faintly seen in the background. Stamp with Brutus Monroe Embossing ink and sprinkle with Brutus Monroe Gold embossing powder heat set.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

These new painted book pages were then folded on one side then sewn with a zigzag stitch. Now, these are new pockets for the Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal.

Group the pages together. Paying attention to where the monthly tabs and the weekly planner pages fall in the Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Once all the pages have been arranged it is time to attach the planner pages. Using Washi tape either attach to a journal page or to a corresponding planner page. These new pages will then rest in the journal and can be bound to the cover.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

Making the cover is something I really enjoy. It makes me feel happy that this journal is almost complete. When the signatures are applied I will sometimes pet the journal. It makes me so happy.

Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal

As I sit and admire my journal it fills me with joy. This is MY Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal. I get to use this for the next year. Hopefully, I will enjoy every day I get to write inside.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Since March I’ve been asking Norella from Calico Collage for a Dragonfly Junk Journal kit. Well, she made one and I finally got time to make it into a journal and made three journal kits as well.

Dragonfly Junk JournalDragonfly Junk Journal

This Dragonfly Junk Journal measures 6 x 8.5 inches with a 1.5 inch spine. There are 3 signatures with a total of 19 sheets of paper to make a total of 76 pages. The cover is fabric over chipboard and a little glitter tule sewed on top. Love the dragonfly broach I attached to the cover. It can be removed and worn. 🙂

Dragonfly Junk Journal

I made the dragonfly journal charms, here is the blog post with all the details on how to make a dragonfly journal charm. This is one of my favorite styles of journal charms to make, I can detach from the journal and where it on a necklace or attach to other items.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Here is a flip through video of the Dragonfly Junk Journal and the kits I made.

Using Dragonfly Delight by Calico Collage for the images was such a joy. When Norella told me the kit was ready I was over the moon! The images she created and used are so wonderful. Love the colors too! Also used the Domino and Bottle Cap Dragonfly Delight images.

While out shopping I found the beautiful fabric with the flowers and butterflies and knew that it was a perfect match for this Dragonfly Junk Journal.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

For the journal cards inside this Dragonfly Junk Journal, I wanted different styles and sizes. It was fun to make different journal cards to have variety inside this journal.

Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal

Sewing lace on the edges of the pages really does add a little something special.  I love using the zig-zag stitch over the lace.

Dragonfly Junk Journal

Since I didn’t have a dragonfly stencil I made two using my Cricut and transparency film. It was easy to make, found silhouette image of a dragonfly, duplicated and turned the images to make a random pattern and told the Cricut Explore Air to cut. Now I have a stencil I can use over and over!

Because the Simply Winter journal Kits were such a great hit I decided to make three Dragonfly Junk Journal kits. These kits have over 90 pieces and include the items necessary for the cover and inside pages.

For the most part, the journals have the same elements, these might have different images but the same amount of pages and journal cards inside these Dragonfly Junk Journal Kits.

Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk Journal Dragonfly Junk JournalDragonfly Junk Journal

Used a lot of Tulip Glitter paint on this junk journal. The glimmer it adds to the images is so pretty. Of course, I have to use lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists inside this Dragonfly Junk Journal and the kits too.

Making the Dragonfly Junk Journal and kits allowed me to use lots of my dragonfly stamps. I love seeing the images on the pages.

How to make a Dragonfly Journal Charm

Hello everyone, I’m here to share How to make a Dragonfly Journal Charm for a Dragonfly Junk journal I made. Using lots of charms and beads I’ll share with you how to make a beautiful Dragonfly Journal Charm or planner charm.

Dragonfly Journal Charm

Dragonfly Journal Charm supplies
Round Nose Pliers – I use two pairs.
The chain can be any color, you just want the rings big enough to attach jump rings through. 1.5 inches of chain
3/4 inch Lobster Clasp or 20mm
Jump rings – I found a kit on Amazon that has a ton of different sizes.
Charms and items to add to chains
BEADSMITH-One Step Looper Tool
Loop Pins by Tim Holtz Idea-ology, Pack of 24, Nickel, Brass and Copper Finishes, TH93200

When making this Dragonfly Journal Charm I decided to look for dragonfly charms and beads that I thought would match my Dragonfly Junk Journal. This is when you can pull those random beads that you don’t have enough to make one project. Each bead and charm can be different and it looks great.

Dragonfly Journal Charm

I’ll lay out all of the elements I think I want to use and then start attaching the elements to the chain. One jump ring at a time, each element is placed where I think it looks the best. Usually, I will put smaller elements closer to the top and large elements at the bottom of the chain.

Here is a video showing How to make a Dragonfly Journal Charm.

Having the right tools helps a lot in making the elements. I really like the one step looper. It works great. I’m not an expert at using it yet. This tool helps save a lot of time though.
