I was prompted to make this Mini Junk Journal because of the scraps left on my desk from making the Travelers Notebooks this past week. The sizes were varied but the most common were 2.75 inches tall and a little over eight inches.
These were perfect to make pages for a journal. I made the pages 2.75 tall by about 5.50 inches long. Some I left longer and just folded over the extra to make a flip out page.
Once I had the size determined I then proceeded to cut a scrap of watercolor paper to 3 inches by 6 inches.
Next I smashed three colors of Brutus Monroe Surface ink on a scrap of acetate. Then sprayed with Alcohol to get the inks to spread and blur the lines. Dip the paper into the ink and boom you have a beautiful watercolor background.
Before stamping it would be a good idea to dry the paper. I failed to do so in the video and the stamping came out very light. I like how it looked, but if you want a vivid image dry the paper first then stamp.
After using the Brutus Monroe heart lace stamp I then layered a scrap of book page and a domino image from Calico Collage. I even sewed the two pieces together to give more texture. Then I placed some washi tape on both ends of the cover and a little over the images. Lastly I added a word from 7gypsies and some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Pearl on top.
Now that the cover is done I used a pamphlet stitch to bind the journal together. There are eight pieces of paper inside to make 32 pages, more if you count the flip out pages too.
I love finding projects for the left over bits on my desk. I think have enough to make a dozen of these little journals out of scraps.
