Valentine Junk Journal Using Calico Collage Journal Kit

I made a Valentine Junk Journal Using Calico Collage Journal Kit. This kit is so beautiful I just had to make another journal using these papers. Many of the pages can be used outside of Valentines and I know I’ll be printing more of these for other projects.

For this journal I decided to make the journal out of 11 in. x 17 in. card stock folded into thirds with pockets. There are lots of tutorials out there on how to make a journal like this so I won’t take the time to explain. But if you are interested I’ll make a follow up post.

Once I had the pages defined I started distressing the papers and adding each of the printed images or scrap papers to the pages.

Every page has something added. Either it has a pocket or a tuck spot. All kinds of places to add notes or photos. Lots of little bits to write love notes or memories.

My thought was this would be a great journal to write love notes to that one that you love and give it to them. What fun would they have going through each page looking at each item. They could enjoy seeing the beautiful papers and seeing what you add to the book.

Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas

A Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas project. Little paper roses fill a mini 3 in. x 3 in. canvas. Rinea foil, Brutus Monroe ink, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Sizzix die, and a Silhouette image were used to create this Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas.

Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas

Being on the Rinea Design Team gives me the advantage of getting to play with beautiful foil paper. For this project I chose silver, light pink and mint green foils.

The Sizzix Bigz Die – Flowers, 3-D by Beth Reames was used to cut the flowers. Rolling the flowers with a quilling tool makes the flowers come together easily.

Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas

Used Brutus Monroe Sea Chalk ink around the edges of the canvas and swiping a little across the top as well. Then a few spritz of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists – True Turquoise and Iridescent Gold coat the canvas to give a beautiful shimmer.

Recently I acquired a new wreath die and used this to cut the mint card stock. The wreath was adhered with hot glue.

A pink scrap of card stock cut with the Silhouette Love image. Cut at 3 in. Adhered with a light glue.

I arranged the roses around the canvas and adhered with hot glue. I just love how this little canvas turned out.

Here is a video of the whole process.

The Love Roses Mixed Media Canvas is a beautiful mini canvas that would be perfect gift for Valentines or even for Mothers day.

Valentines Love Journal Inside Heart Box

DigiThis is a Valentines Love Journal Inside Heart Box I created using the Calico Collage Digital images. Love using the Valentines Love, digital files and having this heart shaped candy box was a great way to show off some love.

Valentines Love Journal Inside Heart Box

Since joining the Calico Collage team I’ve had so much fun! When she posted the Valentines Love papers I had an idea that I wanted to try. Searching through my stash. If you haven’t seen my studio post go check it out. I found my stash of boxes that my brother gave to me years ago. He used to work for Godiva.

Working in my Silhouette Design software I Traced the heart shape from the box and then began cutting hearts to make the pages. Thankful that the Silhouette software is so easy to use.

Once all of the papers were cut it was time to start putting the accordion book together. Using washi tape I adhered each heart to make an accordion book.

When all of the pages were created I then began decorating with the beautiful Calico Collage papers. I also used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Brutus Monroe and Tim Holtz inks. A few pages of Canvas Corp Brands papers and some miscellaneous papers were used.

Again the Silhouette Cameo 3 was used to cut mats and tags for the journal.

A Martha Stewart lacy edge punch was used to give a beautiful detail to several of the pages. When the punched edge shows then that was a place for a pocket.

It was fun making this journal. Being able to use up a lot of the supplies I had in my stash was a big plus.

Quick process video. Most of it is speed up so that you don’t have to spend two hours watching.

I Love You Play Time

Do you feel this way: I Love You Play Time? There are days when I walk into my studio and I just want to play.  No pressure to create a certain thing, trying to meet a deadline or a gift. Just a feeling of I Love You Play Time rolling through my mind. As I pull supplies on my work table to see how things come together. Just to enjoy playing with what ever inspires me.

I Love You Play Time

Last night was one of those days to enjoy the moment. The feeling of I Love You Play Time was strong and made me happy. Recently I picked up a few bottles of Tattered Angels sprays and paints. The sprays called to be played with and for some reason a heart was the focus image.

Pulled out a few craft acrylic paints and a paint brush. Playing with the paint I started making a heart shape on an acrylic stamp block. Thinking that maybe I could make a print that would give a blurred water color effect. Instead it was a blob of color.

This was just play and I decided to tell my self I Love You Play Time and kept going. This time I took the paint directly to the paper and doodled a heart with one color of paint. Layered another color of paint and continued doing so until I got the look I liked. The Tattered Angel sprays were also applied with a brush inside the heart. Shimmer in the paint is so pretty. Using the sprays as intended, I applied a few spritz here and there on the card layer. Once all the paint and sprays are applied this has to dry so I set it aside.

If you didn’t know I have a very large stamp collection. Looking through my cling stamps I found a swirl stamp. My drawer of embossing powders was also calling to me, they wanted to come out and play. Thus I decided that I would over stamp the heart with the swirl in gold embossing powder.

The look was coming together. My feelings of I Love You Play Time were filling me with joy. While I had the embossing powder out I went around the edge of the card with an embossing in pad and dipped it into the powder. Embossing each side until the card had a golden glittered edge.

What should the phrase be for this card? Well since the whole theme is I Love You Play Time, why not a I Love you stamp? Using the gold glitter embossing powder I stamped out the saying. Trimmed down and backed with a matching purple scrap.

Pearls added to a card can bring such elegance. It’s a good thing I have a large stash of stick on pearls. Gathering a couple of sizes of pearls, I proceeded to place them on the card.  Don’t forget to add some glimmer mist around the edge of the foundation card, I told myself.

The card is complete and this session of I Love You Play Time was a success. My goal is to have more sessions like this in my future. Make time to just play, with no particular goal in mind. Don’t stress if things don’t turn out the way you want, just continue to play and feel the products in your hands. Before you know it you will also have the feelings, I Love You Play Time.

Thanks for stopping my my blog today.
