Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Sharing a Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial. The Crazy Pages were made for an International Art Journal Pages Trade “Crazy Pages”. Coordinated by Ayala Art through Facebook. The idea was to create any size page with any medium and send it out to eleven other artists. Then when we got the pages we would then make these into an Art or Junk Journal.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial Supply list

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial Video.

After collecting the items I attached the two sheets of watercolor paper together with washi tape on the back backside. This made a large sheet I could work on and then cut up later.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Stamp the images with Brutus Monroe Detail ink – Raven. Then adhere torn bits of the Damask Tissue paper and dictionary page.

Using the stencil made on the Cricut Explore Air I used the Chalk sprays to add color to the page.

Next applied the Glam and High Impact paint with some yellow acrylic paint with an old room key card in a random fashion.

Using a couple of stencils and gesso I then added a layer over the whole sheet.

Apply a little watered down glimmer mist or use a spray bottle of water then spray with Electric Blue Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist here and there.

Use PVA to attach the torn napkin all over.

Once this is dry – I used a heat tool to speed up the process. Apply the three different pink acrylic paints to create flowers around the torn napkin pieces. Creating whole new flowers.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Apply Cranberry Zing Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist with a paint brush over the flowers.

Seal the work with Krylon Matte Finish Spray – I took it outside as the fumes are not good to smell.

Then using a Pitt Pen made marks around the flowers to give more definition.

Mixed Media Crazy Pages Tutorial

Remove the washi tape from the back and cut the two pages apart. Then cut down to 5 x 5.5 inch pieces.

I really love how these Mixed Media Crazy Pages turned out! There will be more I will be making! Soon I’ll show other projects using the scans I made of the pages.

Take time to play with your art supplies. There is no wrong way to enjoy making something beautiful. Try new things and don’t worry about how it turns out. It might look like a hot mess at first, but keep playing and before you know it you have a wonderful work of art.

Tutorial Decorating Notebook paper for Junk Journal Page

When making a junk journal I like to include notebook paper, more space to write. Today I’m sharing a Tutorial Decorating Notebook paper for Junk Journal Page. I’ll be using lots of products, Calico Collage Fairy Garden images, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and more. These pages are super easy and fast to make. It’s fun to sit and make several in one session.

Here is a video Tutorial showing my Decorating Notebook paper for Junk Journal Page.

Tip, open up a Composition Notebook to the very center. Some are stitched and others are stapled. Remove the stitching or staples and you will have a very long piece of paper and you can use it with the lines going in the correct direction.

I love creating a stack of pages like this for Junk Journals. It’s very relaxing to spray and stamp on the pages. Adding little bits from the current kit helps tie things together.

Do you like wide ruled or college ruled notebook paper? I think I like the wide ruled so I can write bigger, but if I have a lot to say the college ruled is better.

Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Journal cards are a great way to add more journaling space inside a junk journal. This post includes a Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card. Using Rubber Stamps, inks and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists I share how to decorate a guest check into a journal card.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Supplies used for Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card.

Video Tutorial Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card.

Decorating a guest check for a journaling card is really simple and fast. Since I had the Rose Post Card stamp it made the design easy. Take a look around for a postcard stamp that you could use for your project. Even a plain postcard image and then overstamped with flowers would look wonderful.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

When I learned about the Fantastix I was opened up to another way to color images with ink pads that I own. I love the soft color that comes out from using the Fantastix. These tools work great with the Brutus Monroe Surface ink and the Tim Holtz Distress ink.

Blending the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink really helps give the guest check a vintage feel. It is easy to add a little or a lot to get the look you want.

Decorating a Guest Check Journal Card

Once all the coloring has been done I then love using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists over the guest check. The Precious Metal color has a soft pearl color that is very romantic to me.

Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal

Another custom order to share with you today. It is a Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal made for Carrie, one of the members of the Friendly Junk Journal People. She asked me to make a custom Planner Junk Journal when she saw my Dragonfly Bullet Planner Junk Journal.

Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal

Once Carrie gave me a list of themes she liked I knew what I wanted to do. Make a Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal. These seemed to go together – flying things and birds could eat dragonflies. lol

The following Digital Journal kits from Calico Collage were used. Song Bird and Dragonfly Delight. I created homemade stencils to use with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Lots of stamps from my stash were used as well.

One of my friends gave me a 2017 Happy Planner in August. She picked up this planner on clearance and didn’t realize that it only had one month left before it was out of date. Knowing that I make Junk Journals she gave the planner to me to use.

Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal

These pages were great foundations to add other elements and I did so by adding notebook paper to one side and painted paper to the other. This created four pockets on the page to use.

Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal

One day I picked up a stamp set with months and numbers and I knew it would be perfect for a Tab paper punch I have had for years and I was right! The stamps are the perfect size to fit on the tabs so I created two sets one for the pages the other for the Monthly Calendar Journal cards.

For the cover of this Bird Dragonfly Planner Junk Journal, I used fabric I picked up that I thought would be perfect for Carrie. There are lots of positive phrases and beautiful images all over the fabric. It matched perfectly to the Song Bird and Dragonfly Delight digital images.

Making a custom Junk Journal is fun and a challenge. Getting the themes and colors that a customer wants can sometimes be a challenge but so far I’ve been very lucky that the custom orders so far have been super fun to make.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page Tutorial

Happy New Year everyone. Today I’m sharing a Happy New Year Junk Journal Page Tutorial. This Junk Journal Page is for the Friendly Junk Journal People Facebook group for a swap.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

The idea is that we all trade pages and then we can use these in our junk journals. The size of the pages are 8 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide is folded in half to make an 8 x 5.25 inch.

Supplies used in making the Happy New Year Junk Journal Page.

Video Tutorial for the Happy New Year Junk Journal Page.

This Happy New Year Junk Journal Page is super easy to create. Using a 12 x 12 sheet of scrapbook paper that has a light color or print that goes with your theme is helpful.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Using the Fiskars paper trimmer and a stylis score at the 8-inch mark down one side. Rotate the paper and score at 10.5 inches. Fold up the 4 inches at the bottom. Next, fold over the 1.5-inch flap to the smooth side of the paper. On the flap turn the corner of the lower flap down to give a finished edge. Fold the page in half with the 4-inch pocket at the bottom and now on the front of the page.

Now that the page has been folded you can now see where to decorate with stamps and the stencil. Once the page has been stamped and sprayed let it dry for a moment and then added lace to the flap and the pocket. I use a glue stick to hold the lace in place and then sew the lace on my sewing machine.

Adhere the flap and pocket to the page with the Best Glue Ever and set aside.

Assemble the words and numbers, add the rhinestones with the Best Glue Ever and Embellie Jellie. Adding flatback rhinestones to the project was so easy using ScraPerfects, Best Glue Ever and Embellie Gellie.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Attach the words and 2018 to the page with the Best Glue Ever. Then add the journal cards and tuck spot.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

Making one of these junk journal pages is so much easier than trying to plan a whole journal at one time. I find that if I think about one page (it actually creates four pages when added to a journal) it is much easier for me.

Happy New Year Junk Journal Page

When you are out looking at paper take a look at the die cut sheets. there might be one that would make a great stencil to use with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.

Mermaid Planner Junk Journal

A few weeks ago I was asked to make a Mermaid Planner Junk Journal for a friend. She wanted this as a gift for a dear friend of hers. After asking a few questions I had an idea of how I would make this Mermaid Planner Junk Journal and I began the task.

Mermaid Planner Junk Journal

Here is a list of a few of the items used in this Mermaid Planner Junk Journal.

Flip through video of the Mermaid Planner Junk Journal.

Once I had all the items selected for the Mermaid Planner Junk Journal it went together quickly. First I created a stencil using my Cricut, a seaweed image, and transparency film.

Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal

Lately, I’ve found that I really like making a stencil to match the theme of the junk journal I’m working inside. While looking around for stencil material I remembered I had a box of write on, wipe off transparency film. To me, this was the perfect material to use inside my cutter and I was right. I had to adjust the blade settings but once I figured out how to get it set things worked great.

The planner from Dollar Tree was a great help in this Mermaid Planner Junk Journal too. I wanted her to have space to write details or appointments and when I found this planner I knew it would work great inside the Mermaid Planner Junk Journal. Since there are over 200 pages inside she will have lots of room to write.

The fabric on this cover was a remnant I picked up a while back. There was just enough for the cover of one junk journal and I knew I wanted to use it for this one.

Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal

When the fabric was applied to the cover I decided that it needed more glam. That is when I used my fingers to spread around some Tulip Dimensional glitter paint. The glitter in this paint really helped to make this cover beautiful.

Mermaid Planner Junk Journal Mermaid Planner Junk Journal

I enjoy making custom junk journals and this Mermaid Planner Junk Journal was no different. It was fun to see how I could add the planner part into the junk journal and I think I succeeded. My friend was very happy with this Mermaid Planner Junk Journal and I hope that the person she gave it to loves it and will use the planner. 🙂

Pink Song Bird Junk Journal

I’m loving this Pink Song Bird Junk Journal I just completed. Using the Calico Collage digital kit Song Bird. This time when I used this digital kit I decided to use a lot of pink throughout the journal.

Pink Song Bird Junk Journal

This Pink Song Bird Junk Journal measures 6 x 8.5 with 64 pages. Lots of journal cards and tuck spots throughout this junk journal.

Here is a video flip through of the Pink Song Bird Junk Journal and Journal Kits.

For the cover of this Pink Song Bird Junk Journal, I used a pretty floral fabric with butterflies. I loved the pinks in the fabric and that is what made me choose to use pink inside the journal.

Using the iridescent glitter tule on the dragonfly junk journal was a hit so I decided to use it again on this Pink Song Bird Junk Journal.

Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal

The pages have been sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists through stencils that I made using my Cricut. I’m really enjoying making my own stencils. I can match the theme of the junk journal and it is an original design.

Another favorite tool in my studio is my sewing machine. I love adding the zigzag stitches to the pages and elements.

Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal

The lace elements in this Pink Song Bird Junk Journal were all colored with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Spraying the lace with the colors I love helps me use up the white lace in my stash. It also makes it easy to make more lace matching the colors I’m using.

Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal Pink Song Bird Junk Journal

Sewing strips of the fabric to the journal cards helped tie the elements together. When making the Journal Kits I made sure to add enough of the fabric that can be used on the elements that you might make.

When I’m making junk journals I really love being able to use my rubber stamps. It makes it easy to make pretty journal cards with a great select of stamps.

The journal kits have all the elements used in the Pink Song Bird Junk Journal. The sewn elements – pages and journal cards are done. But you get to choose where to attach the pocket, tuck spots and install the journal cards. You can even add more of your pages and elements.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Hello friends, today is day 10 of the 12 days of Junk Journal Gift Ideas and I’m sharing a Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal. This is a super easy mini junk journal that can be made as a small stocking stuffer or to add to a Christmas Card.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Video Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal.

The method for making this one sheet mini junk journal is very easy. Take the 12 x 12 inch sheet of paper and score at the 3, 6, 9 inch marks, rotate 90 degrees and score at the 3, 6, 9 inch marks. Then slightly crease the page so you can see the sore marks.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Make a cut down the center score mark and stop 3 inches from the edge. Rotate paper 180 degrees and cut the outside two score marks and stop 3 inches from the edge. You will have a zig-zag looking sheet of paper.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Next, fold the paper in an accordion fashion until the pages have been formed. Using the Best Glue ever adhere the pages together. Keeping in mind those pages you want to have pockets, leave the top open to slide a journal card inside.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Once the pages have adhered create the cover using scraps of paper cut to 2.75 inches square. Apply distress inks to the book and cover. Wrap one time around the journal with yarn and tie a bow. This will be the closure. Apply the Best Glue Ever to the cover pieces and adhere to cover over the yarn.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Cut a 1 inch by 3 inch piece of paper to cover the spine of the journal. Adhere using the Best Glue Ever. Once all of the gluing is complete use the Perfect Crafting Pouch to get rid of any sticky areas. Wipe with the Perfect Cleaning Cloth to remove any excess powder.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

Decorate the one sheet mini junk journal to your liking. For mine, I used scraps of book pages, images from Calico Collage Drag and scraps of cardstocks.

Tutorial for a No Sew Junk Journal

The one-sheet mini junk journal has 18 pages including the covers for you to decorate and depending on how you created the pages could have 7 pockets.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Hello everyone. Today I’m sharing the following Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal. One of my followers requested that I make a custom junk journal for her. The requirements she had were, dragonflies, hedgehogs, nature, eagles, earth tones – brick and burgundy reds, olive and moss green, and golden yellows.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

So using the list of things she liked and knowing the list of things she didn’t want I proceeded to pull items and share with her what I was thinking. She came back with feedback on the items she loved and wanted more of and we changed directions once. Once I had all the elements I set to work on the journal.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Here is a flip through video of the Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal.

Loir Louise is her name and she said she loved to color. That gave me the idea to make a lot of little journal cards that she could color and then write on the backside.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

I used the Dragonfly Delight journal kit from Calico Collage. This kit has a lot of teal and pink. Using distress inks and a blending tool I was able to alter the colors and add more golds, reds and darker greens. It really changed the look of the pages.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Also used a few pages from the Gypsy Love journal kit from Calico Collage. The deeper greens and reds and gold I thought went perfectly with the other pages. I also liked that these pages were a different size so it gave some added interest to the journal.

Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal

Since she liked autumn colors and dragonflies I used two of my custom stencils. Wanting to have stencils that fit my pages and had themes I liked I used my Cricut. Cutting each page to be the correct size and have images I liked. No one else will have these stencils thus making my junk journals unique. Lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists were used on the pages.

Other elements used in the Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal was the floral fabric. To add interest here and there I cut one-inch strips of the fabric and then sewed on the pages, journal cards, and other elements.

Making this Aspire Dream Custom Junk Journal was a lot of fun for me. Being able to pull my stamps down and give them a good workout made me smile.
