How to make a thinking of you card with Christmas Stamps

Today I’ll show you How to make a thinking of you card with Christmas Stamps. I got the idea because I’ve been doing so many Christmas cards and had the stamps already on my desk. But it is time to switch gears and make non Christmas cards.

Looking at the Sketched Holiday Christmas Stamps from Brutus|Monroe. Which right now are offered in a limited edition card set. I saw that the pine branches and pine cones would make a great card.

How to make a thinking of you card with Christmas Stamps

Pulling some supplies from my stash I knew I could make a great Thinking of You card with these Christmas Stamps. I used the Script embossing folder from Cuttlebug, the embossing diffuser from Tim Hotz, gold and metallic green embossing powder, Versa Mark ink, Tim Hotlz Distressed ink and Tattered Angels Glimmer  Mists – Cork, Coffee Shop and Blarney.

The paper used was bright white cardstock and some textured green cardstock that was in my stash. I have so much paper that I have no idea where the green came from. My goal this past year was to use up as much of my stash has I can. I’ve been making progress, but I still have lots of stuff to use!

The top piece is cut at 3 inches square and then a green layer 3.25 inches. The next white layer was 4 inches by 5.25 inches. The last green layer was just shy of 5.5 inches by 4.25 inches. This last layer I like to make just a tad smaller than my standard A2 card (8.5 x 5.5 card folded in half).

Not sure where I got the Thinking of you stamp. Wish that stamp companies would print their names on the sheets of acrylic stamps. When the packaging is gone you don’t know where it came from unless you were smart and remembered to write it down or place the items in a notebook. Silly me forgot to do that. lol

There is a video of the whole process, please watch and let me know if you have any questions.

Glitter Poinsettias and Reindeer

Today it is all about Glitter Poinsettias and Reindeer.

I’m on the Brutus Monroe Inspiration team as well as the Canvas Corp Brands Design team. This week I needed to get a project made for Brutus Monroe and decided to make it a two in one.

Glitter Poinsettias and Reindeer

Using the Sketched Holiday stamp set from Brutus Monroe and several colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist I created this Christmas card.

Here is a list of the colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist I used today:

Apple
Dijon
Cork
Tattered Leather
Leap Frog

The Tim Holtz Reindeer was die cut from chipboard as well as the Top Note. Then I cut white cardstock at just under 4.25 by 5.5 as my card topper.

Glitter Poinsettias and Reindeer

The video shows how the colors were applied and how I stamped and applied gold embossing powder.

This was a fun card to make because there are so many options. Swap out the color of glimmer mists and the look of this card changes.

I love having tools that I can use to recreate cards and change things up. Like the Tim Holtz Reindeer die and the Stampin Up Top Note die. It allows me to cut the dies and then make them into any type art project that suits me.

If you have followed me for very long you know how I love to add glitter. Once you have glitter in your home you can never get rid of it, so I embrace this and apply it whenever I can. There are days that I walk out of my home and there will be glitter all over me. I’ll have glitter in my hair and all over my clothes. I just smile and go with it, knowing that if I hug someone I’ll give them a little sparkle.

So don’t worry about having glitter on you the next time you leave your home. Who knows it may be the perfect accessory to brighten your day or for someone else.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown November Sketch

This post is about the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown November Sketch.

52 Christmas Card Throwdown November Sketch

If you haven’t checked out the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown site, you should!  Lots of beautiful Christmas cards made every week.

For this project I used the Brutus Monroe Sketched Holidays poinsettia image. The image was embossed in the Sterling Embossing powder from Brutus Monroe.

Watercolor pencils were used to color the poinsettia image. Acrylic paint watered down was used to paint the green areas.

A while back I picked up a 12 x 12 pad of Christmas paper and that is what I used for the background.

I used Tim Holtz Distress ink to go around the outside of the card and the background paper.

For the happy holidays stamp it was embossed in silver. Watered down acrylic paint to give a watercolor effect. The mat was colored using Tim Holtz Distress ink. Then raised with pop dots.

Decided that the corners should be rounded with my crop a dial on the Happy Holidays and then only one corner of the poinsettia images.

Of course I have to had some sort of bling to my projects.

This was a simple card to make and I thought it was perfect for this 52 Christmas Card Throwdown November Sketch.

Make sure you check out all of the other cards created. Follow along by joining. I love seeing all of the beautiful creative cards.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

This post is all about Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. The current weekly challenge is to go back and choose a previous challenge. Looking back through the challenges was fun. It was a hard decision but I finally found one that I wanted to use, from the May 2016 challenge.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Digging around in my stash of dies I found the label or note die from Stampin Up and an old Star die from Sizzix. I knew that these would be perfect for this project.

Thankful that I have a stash of chipboard in my studio, I die cut one of each. Using acrylic paint I covered the star until it was coated to my liking. Once the paint was dry I then sprayed with Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays – Zest – Brutus|Monroe and a gold/copper Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

When the spray dried I used the MISTY to help with positioning the poinsettia from the Sketched Holiday Set – Brutus|Monroe. Stamped with the Brutus|Monroe embossing ink, then gold embossing powder.

A technique I like to use, take a Zig two way glue pen and go around the edge of the star, then dip into gold embossing powder. Heat the powder until it shines gold.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Time to tackle the label or note die from Sizzix. Because this is for the Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown and I have decided to use more than one die. Taking the Mini Chalk Ink pad Suede from Brutus|Monroe I went around the edge.

I just love the Tissue paper from Canvas Corp Brands, found in a mixed media pack. Tearing a strip and using white glue I glued a strip at a diagonal on the label die. Then filled the corners with additional strips. Sprayed with Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays – Zest and a gold/copper Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels, I love the shimmer it adds.

Reapply the Mini Chalk Ink pad Suede around the edges and between the strips. While the ink is still moist on the paper dip into gold embossing powder and heat. This really makes such a beautiful background, makes me think of a gilded box that has aged.

Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Tied a bow out of a cream and gold ribbon. Don’t forget to shop in the Christmas ornament isle the next time you go out. That is where I found the little gold and glitter stars. Using three of the stars and a glue dot I placed these at the top point of the star with the ribbon glued with white glue. The star was layered on top of a small strip of burlap, then the label. Last I used a gold embossed napkin.

This is a very elegant Christmas card and I feel that it was perfect for this Stash Challenge Dies 52 Christmas Card Throwdown.

Here is a video of the process.

Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

Today’s post is Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Because I’m making cards in the hope that I get selected for next years 2017 52 Christmas Card Throwdown design team.

The goal of this project was to use a select color palette. Grey, soft blue and soft green.

Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

I decided for this challenge: Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown, I would use the Brutus Monroe Sketched Holiday set and the Brutus Monroe Holiday Sentiments. Other items I used, Brutus Monroe Metallic Embossing Powder – Sterling as well as the Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays Tattered Angels grey Shimmer Spray as well as some bling, to make this card.

What I found ironic was I had just completed my project for my next blog post for Brutus Monroe the night before and when I went to the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown website and saw that the colors were the same as I had already been using, I knew this would be a piece of cake! lol

For this project I wanted to make the card stand out from the rest. Using layers and embellishments I think I took this card up a notch. The card isn’t complicated, but it does take a little bit of time to put it together.

Started with stamping the image and embossing. My go to paper is Accent Opaque digital 100 pound in white. This cardstock is heavy and makes great card foundations as well for elements.

Colored the image with the Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays. Used a paint palette, just spray a couple of times. A simple small paint brush helps get into those small details. The embossed lines help keep the color inside the lines. What is nice about using the Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays in this way, is they dry fast.

Cut out the poinsettias and then went around the edges with a grey marvey marker so that the edge would have a finished look. Many times I forget this step. It’s a great way to make your cards look more polished.

Knowing that I wanted more grey I substituted the Metallic Embossing Powder – Sterling and applied a nice coat to a piece of paper. Make sure you put the lid back on your embossing powder before you heat set. The powder will fly everywhere and leave a big mess. Trust me I know from experience!

To make an element to add to the card I used a Punch Bunch fern shape. Here is a tip for you. If your punch isn’t working correctly try punching aluminum foil. Punching through the aluminium foil helps sharpen the cutter.

Here is a close up of one of the finished flowers. Love how the little rhinestones shine and sparkle.

The finished card with all the supplies. Doesn’t this look beautiful on the silver tray?

I did create a video of the whole process so you can watch how the card was made.

Even if I don’t make it on the design team I think I’ll keep the site book marked so that I can use the design prompts to help me in designing cards in the future. It is fun making cards for the Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown. Have you used a website for inspiration? Do you have a favorite site that you like to visit? One Focal Stamp One Layer Greeting Card

Last night I did a live Facebook video. While on the video I made One Focal Stamp One Layer Greeting Card LIVE!

It is a little exciting and nerve wracking to do a live video. Things can go wrong or things can be great. I had a good live session. Really need to do some testing to figure out how to change the image on the video from portrait to landscape. But I feel that overall the video went well and I feel everyone got to see the new stamps and how to make the card.

For this project I used the new Christmas flowers Sketched Holiday and Holiday Sentiments from Brutus Monroe. The sets will be for sale on Wed, Oct 12, 2016 in the shop. Doing videos makes me feel special as I get to play with the new stamps before anyone can buy them in the store. It’s exciting to get a package in the mail and opening it up to see what the newest items are for the month.

I also used the Brutus Monroe Metallic Embossing Powder – Sterling as well as the Summer Chalk Shimmer Sprays to make this card.

Christmas Colors 52 Christmas Card Throwdown

This card design was decided because of the thread I found on the Splitcoaststampers site. Seeing this post inspired me to scale back my card to a simple design. Finding inspiration from others helps me decide on a card design when my mind is overwhelmed. I like the idea of having a focus when I make a project, how about you.? This card would be perfect for anyone wanting to create a lot of cards for Christmas.

Here is the video posted on the Brutus Monroe Facebook page.  Check it out to see how I made the card and to see the newest stamps that will be in the shop Wed.
