Tape Technologies Inc

While at Creativation 2018 I took a stroll and ended up at the Tape Technologies Inc booth. This stuff is amazing. So many wonderful colors that can be used for all kinds of projects. This vinyl has so many colors! They even have a removable line for those projects where you put it on windows or walls.

While I was in the booth I had a little chat with the General Manager for Tape Technologies Inc then I got to sit and watch Sue Eldred create a super cute project. Here is a video of the interview and Sue making the cool project.

Touching this vinyl and seeing all the ways it can be used in projects really got me excited. I could see using this in so many ways, adding bling to a journal, making greeting cards, decorating glassware and so much more!

Check out Tape Technologies Inc website for more information and request a catalog be sent to you. Let them know how you found out about them when you make the request. I know that I’ll be getting a lot of this vinyl soon for my projects. Also, check out their Facebook page for updates on what is happening.

Growing With Love Smart Pot

Sharing how I made a Growing With Love Smart Pot. Recently I purchased a new Dendrobium Orchid at Lowes. I’m a member of the Oklahoma Orchid Society and many of our members have the Dendrobium Orchids. I just love the way the look and the way the flowers smell.

While at Lowes for a light bulb I decided to walk over to the Orchid display to see what was being offered. When I saw this plant I just knew I had to have it in my home.

When I got home an idea came to me to decorate a Smart Pot so that it would look pretty while sitting on my desk. Since I had all of the supplies it was time that I gave Heat Transfer Vinyl a try.

Growing With Love Smart Pot Supplies:

Smart Pot Size #2
Cricut Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl, Gold and Purple
Silhouette CAMEO® 3
Polka dot heart design from Silhouette Library
Love Script from Silhouette Library
Samantha Script Font
Weeding tool
Scissors
Iron
Ranger Non Stick Craft Sheet

Growing With Love Smart Pot Process:

Choose Offset tool. Select distance 0.0125. Remove original layer. Move letters until all units are touching. Select entire word and weld. Type “with” and repeat same process.

Size each word until pleasing. My words and heart grouped together were 4.5 in. tall. Select words, Flip Horizontally.

Create a weeding box around Words and Heart. This step will make weeding so much easier.

Prepare to cut HTV. Press Cut tool. Select heart and choose “no cut”. Select words and choose cut. Load Gold HTV into Silhouette CAMEO® without mat. Press send to Silhouette. Once the gold has cut. Go back to design and select the words and choose “no cut”. Select the heart and choose cut. Load Purple HTV into Silhouette CAMEO® without mat. Press send to Silhouette.

Tip: If vinyl has been on a roll for a long time it will curl. Try flattening it with your hands or even placing it under a book for a little while. When I was cutting my vinyl tried to curl back up and jam in my machine.

Weed design. Cut design from roll.

Follow the directions to apply the brand of HTV you have.

The smart pot is made of synthetic materials. Be careful not to melt the pot. Test iron with transfer sheet inside the pot to make sure you have the correct heat setting.

Growing With Love Smart PotTransfer the design to the pot. Apply the Heart and Growing with, iron.

Remove transfer tape.

Remove transfer tape.

Fluff pot back to original shape.

Place plant inside pot. Since my pot will be indoors I have a plant tray to keep water from ruining my table.

This was my first time to use Heat Transfer Vinyl. Now that I’ve made a project, I think I’ll be making a lot more!

Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge

This post is all about the Canvas Corp Brands Black Friday Challenge.

The idea was to create anything that was all black. “Create a project that is 90% black – the other 10% can only be white, grey, or metallic.”

To begin with I found an old canvas that I had on hand. This canvas had a hole punched in it and I knew I wouldn’t use it for another project.

Gathering up lots of black items I had a nice pile on my work desk. Where to begin…

I didn’t have any black gesso so I sorta made a grey gesso. Since I didn’t have any black gesso I mixed white gesso with black paint. What I should have done is made the gesso from scratch. But for now I’ll keep the grey as I can still use it in projects.

The focal piece was a Christmas ornament. Finding the glitter covered deer gave me the perfect item to use as the focal point. Which is important to have in an art piece.

The Canvas Corp Brands mixed media pack is a great resource for this project. I pulled Tissue paper, burlap and scrapbook paper from the pack.

Have you seen those little sets of LED lights in the craft stores? Christmas is a great time to find these lights and if you are lucky you can get them on sale.

Recently I’ve gotten two new toys. One is a Silhouette CAMEO® 3 and the other is a Circut Explorer Air. With these two new toys I was able to cut the words and poinsettias.

The Silhouette design “Ornate Frame” paired with the Samantha font helped me create the phrase Believe in the Magic. I used the Cricut Joys of the Season cartridge Poinsettia, altering the image by adding more layers and changing the sizes of the petals.

If you haven’t figured out yet I really love tools and gadgets. I also have the Tim Holtz Vagabond and I used this to cut the Sizzix Trees. It might be hard to tell but there are six trees on the canvas.

This was a good challenge for me, to think outside of the box and make up an art piece that used black as the foundation. I enjoyed making this and now I’m planning on another project that I want to make similar to this piece.
