Finding ways to use those scraps is something I think about a lot! If I know that I want a blue piece of paper then I&#8217;ll pull my blue bin and use those to create.<\/p>\n<p>Grab a piece of paper for the base, this can be book pages, junk mail or even clean copy paper. It is your journal do what you want with what you have or can get. There are no rules in creating Junk Journals.<\/p>\n<h5>If you like the distressed edges look apply your favorite color. I like using Walnut Stain distress ink. In my opinion adding the dressed edges helps define the papers and make them look aged.<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b.jpg\" alt=\"Using Scraps to Make Base Journal Pages\" width=\"1000\" height=\"712\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-119405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b-768x547.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1b-600x427.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lay out a few scraps on your base paper and see how those look together. My journal pages are 11 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall, when folded in half the pages measure 5.5 inches wide by 8.5 inches tall. Use this information to change up the look of the pages. Maybe part of a paper will share both sides of the page or only on the left or right.<\/p>\n<p>Using Aleene&#8217;s tacky glue to attach the papers works best for me. The key is to use a small amount of glue and quickly use a bone folder or other tool to smooth the page and thus spreading the glue. It takes practice, so if the first ones don&#8217;t work, just keep smoothing and soon it will become easy for you.<\/p>\n<h5>Get creative when adhering the papers. Some can become pockets with very little effort!<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d.jpg\" alt=\"Using Scraps to Make Base Journal Pages\" width=\"1000\" height=\"713\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-119406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1d-600x428.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The idea behind Using Scraps to Make Base Journal Pages with color grouped scraps is that it should come easy. Don&#8217;t over think how things are going down on your paper. I like to use the straight edges to layer the papers. Do feel free to put the paper down at angles, just cover the base paper with scraps anyway that feels and looks good to you!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c.jpg\" alt=\"Using Scraps to Make Base Journal Pages\" width=\"1000\" height=\"736\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-119407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c-768x565.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lindaisrael.com\/art\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Using-Scraps-to-Make-Base-Journal-Pages-1c-600x442.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Remember these are base journal pages. In the next steps some of these papers can be covered with writing space, pockets and embellishments. Again, don&#8217;t over think! In fact challenge yourself, set up a timer and work on creating pages for 10 minutes, or even an hour. When I get down to smaller scraps I&#8217;ll put that color batch aside and move on to other colorways.
