Still working on a Christmas Junk Journal. Today I’m sharing How to make a Christmas Journal Charm. Using beads and charms with some ribbon I share how to make a Christmas themed journal charm.

How to make a Christmas Journal Charm supply list.

Round Nose Pliers – I use two pairs.
The chain can be any color, you just want the rings big enough to attach jump rings through. 1.5 inches of chain
3/4 inch Lobster Clasp or 20mm
Jump rings – I found a kit on Amazon that has a ton of different sizes.
Charms and items to add to chains
Ribbon – I used four different colors, it’s what I had. 😉

Tutorial Video – How to make a Christmas Journal Charm.

When making this Christmas Journal Charm I used items I had in my stash. A while ago when I shared Making Journal Charms I made several beaded items. It helps in making the journal charms to have all the items ready to go.

When making jewelry items, it is okay to mix metal colors. As metal is a neutral color and therefore they all go together. So don’t feel you have to have it all match. I like the mixed look on a Junk Journal. It helps it make it look like junk. 😉

Since I made this Christmas Journal Charm detachable I decided to add ribbon so that when the charm was removed it still had something cute on the spine.

The video also shows how I make a ribbon closure for this Christmas Junk Journal. It is simple and I hope it gives you ideas.

It was fun making this Christmas Journal Charm, so much I made three to match all of the Christmas Junk Journals I made! lol

Domino Necklace Tutorial

Today I’m sharing a Domino Necklace Tutorial. In July I’ll be attending a Pin Up Girl Bazaar in Oklahoma City and I was asked to bring as many Pin Up Girl related items as I could. My thoughts were that Domino Necklaces would be a perfect item to bring.

Calico Collage Pin Up Girls Domino Digital Images
100 Pcs Oval Bails Pendants 15x5mm
Judikins Diamond Glaze, 8-Ounce
Wood Dominos – Double nine from Tuesday Morning
Distress Ink Black Soot
Blending Tool
Paintbrush
Best Cleaner Ever by ScraPerfect
Flat Back Rhinestones
Tweezers
Fiskars Scissors
Omni Stick Glue
Waxed Cord

The process for this Domino Necklace Tutorial.

Begin by printing the Pin Up Girl images. My images were printed on standard copy paper using a laser jet printer. Trim the images from the sheet.

Use Distress Ink – Black Soot around the edges of the images.

Apply a small amount of Diamond Glaze to the wooden domino and smooth out using a paintbrush, quickly place the printed image on top. Trim if necessary.

Once the Diamond Glaze has dried apply Distress Ink – Black Soot around the edges to blend the image into the domino.

Squeeze out Diamond Glaze on top of the image carefully to avoid bubbles. (Do not shake Diamond Glaze prior to use it will cause bubbles). Use a paintbrush to smooth out the Diamond Glaze. This product is self-leveling, once you have enough on the project. Place a small flat back rhinestone in the Diamond Glaze. Sprinkle a small amount of glitter on top then set aside for the piece to dry.

Once the first layer of Diamond Glaze has dried completely (could be 30 minutes to overnight depending on where you live and the humidity) apply another coat of Diamond Glaze and allow to dry.

Attach a pendant bail to the back of the domino using Omni Stick Glue. Allow the piece to dry.

Cut a piece of cord or use a chain to complete the necklace.

Did you think this was an easy Domino Necklace Tutorial? Once you get started it is hard to stop! I bought all the wooden dominos that my local Tuesday Morning had in stock and went back and purchased more! My hope is that you have fun making your own.

Studio Tour and Floor Painting Tutorial

For the past few months, I’ve been working on and off on my new studio space. Today I thought I would share a Studio Tour and Floor Painting Tutorial. Yes, I painted the carpet. It cost a lot less than replacing the flooring. And I think it looks awesome.

This space, many years ago was a home, then a bakery, then an Insurance Agency and Gun store. Now half of the building is my husband’s embroidery business. WeEmbroider was started back in 1999. Henry took a break from the embroidery business to focus on the insurance agency and a couple of years ago he decided to get it going again.

Since we own the building it was perfect for us to use for our business. And Henry said, I could have half of the building to create a workshop/studio where I can have workshops.

The carpet was a mess in there. With so many people coming through, foot traffic, spills and what not. But the cost of replacing the carpet was too high. So Henry and I brainstormed and came up with the idea to paint the floor.

I did all of the work myself. Henry helped me move furniture but I did all the painting. It took 4 coats and 10 gallons of paint to get the floor ready to decorate.

After the floor was painted white I painted flowers and dragonflies. Using craft paint, Acrylic paint and even some Glam from Tattered Angels.

Then I started moving items into this space. Jewelry making supplies have a corner, the Stamps have almost a whole wall. The hat making area is also in this space.

Hercules has found a spot on the table to watch what I’m doing. Looking at the stamp shelves and the hat making supplies. I even made a curtain to the little closet that holds most of my fabric.

Some of the greeting cards and the mask I made for a challenge with Canvas Corp Brands. Currently, those photo boxes are empty. waiting for me to decide what should be stored in them.

Some of my wood mounted stamps. I still have a lot more to move and figure out how I want them stored and displayed.

This is my sewing space. I use this area when I’m working on alterations or creating items for customers. Making quilts has been something I’ve enjoyed for a few years now as well. Oreo is taking a snooze on my cutting desk. The chair is there so he can jump up there. Oreo loves to look out the window.

Looking out from my sewing space I can see the front door and worktables. Before I filled the stamp shelves. See all those boxes on the shelves. Still more to move!

Decided to paint the carpet in this area to help tie things together. The carpet under the desk and cabinets was okay so I didn’t move everything out of this area to paint.

Carpet is done and the Ironing station is back in place.

The Pairs themed canvas started because I purchased a small portable ironing board. The fabric was so pretty I decided to cover the worktops and make covers for the chair and sewing machines.

Most of the stamps moved into place. It is hard to see in this photo but I also have a camera mount so I can do videos in the workshop.

Tea cart belonged to my grandmother and I got it when my mother passed in Sept 2017. The sides fold out and it makes a really nice table. Some of my altered domino necklaces, bottle cap necklaces and more.

See how cute the floor looks? Everyone comments on the floor when they visit the shop. I’m glad that I decided to document the process so I could share a Studio Tour and Floor Painting Tutorial.

Out in the entryway is a long narrow room. Henry had his shop logo but said I could add my finished items for sale out there.

I hope to have my first workshop in this space soon. Some of the workshop ideas will be some of the following.

Mermaid Charm Tutorial

Recently, I went on a vacation and I wanted a cross body purse that was a nautical or mermaid theme. This prompted me to make a Mermaid Charm Tutorial too. I love how it turned out and lots of people loved my cross body purse. Even had one person ask if I would make one for them! Making bags and journal charms will keep me busy for sure. lol

The images that I used on the Purse were from Calico Collage Digital Journal and Card Kits – A Mermaid’s Tale journal kit. Mermaid Tale Journal Cards.

Words that were used on the strap were printed on muslin with an inkjet printer. Then these were sewn with a zig-zag stitch.

This Mermaid Charm Tutorial that made the charm was perfect for the zipper pull on the purse. I love the way it jingles when I’m wearing the purse.
