The members of the FJJP have requested a tutorial on Making Journal Charms. So I pulled my supplies and made a video showing how I make Journal Charms. These can also be added to a keychain, a purse or even on a necklace.

Supplies used for Making Journal Charms

When making journal charms I like to lay things out so I can see what I have and how I’ll put it together. Select beads and place on the head pin then using the technique in the video below wrap the loop.

Then using jump rings attach the elements together. There are finished elements that can be purchased if you don’t feel confident in making the loops.

There is such a variety of charms out there to choose from and it is okay to mix metal colors in projects. Any metal items are considered neutral in fashion. When mixing metals I think it adds a beautiful element. Like the charms were collected from all kinds of places and therefore don’t match.

If you have never made jewelry items before and want more help, check out a local bead and jewelry making stores. Usually, if you go in and show them the project you are making and purchase items from them they will teach you or set you up in a class so you can learn from one of their instructors. This is how I learned many years ago.

Have fun looking for beads and charms to use. This is one of my favorite things to do, search for items. Look at thrift stores at the jewelry items. Some of those can be taken apart and used.

Go through that costume jewelry bin that has damaged, broken or missing pieces and take some apart for making journal charms. You will be amazed at what you can find.
