Things used for How to Sew on Junk Journal Page.
Sewing machine – mine is really old, 25 years. But any home sewing machine will work. Avoid the handheld sewing machine as those will be more headache than it is worth. Check out Local Sewing Machine Repair shops for used machines, thrift stores – make sure you turn it on before you purchase and then you can always buy a new machine for under $100.
Thread – I have a lot of old thread. Test it before you use in your machine – Pull a length off of the spool and see if it is easy to break with your hands. If you can give it a slight pull and it breaks it is really old and you won’t be happy it is in your machine.
100 ORGAN FLAT SHANK 80/12 Needles
Scissors – I use Fiskar Scissors, these have a nice sharp point to get into tiny spaces.
Paper and Ribbon were used from my stash.
Look for old Street Atlus when out estate sale shopping or thrift store shopping.
Before sewing on the page, I did use Vintage Photo Distress ink and a blending tool, on the pocket portion.
Tips for How to Sew on Junk Journal Page.
- Start with a new needle when you first start sewing on paper. I will continue to use the needle until it breaks or bends. Usually, it will work for a while before it gets dull.
- Clean the machine of lint and dust regularly. Read your manual to know how best to clean your machine.
- Use a longer stitch length when sewing on paper if it is too short you will perforate the paper and it will tear.
- Have fun.
Don’t be afraid of a sewing machine. It’s a great tool and you just need to spend a little time getting to know your machine and you will have fun!
