Sharing a super easy Radiant Red Embellishment Tutorial today. Using stamps and items from the Radiant Red Creative Box I will show you how to make your own embellishments to use in junk journals.

Supplies used for the Radiant Red Embellishment Tutorial.
Let’s get started on this Radiant Red Embellishment Tutorial. Grab a journal card from the Radiant Red Creative Box or find one in your stash. Spray the card with Radiant Red Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. Dry with a heat tool or allow to air dry.

Load the Game Card Stamp into a MISTI, or other stamping tool. Ink with black ink and stamp on the red journal card. Trim the image and save the scrap for another project later. Ink edges with Black Soot Distress inks.

Select images from the Radiant Red Digital Download or the Creative box, trim and apply distress inks to the edges. Adhere on the game card left side.

Trim a piece of red burlap about 1 x 1.5 inches and remove some of the fibers to give a distress look. Adhere on the right side of the game card.

Tie a bow of string through the buttons hole and apply the Best Glue Ever and allow to air dry – until clear. Add a little of Aleene’s Tacky glue and then adhere on top of the red burlap scrap.

Select words and apply distress inks to the edges. Then adhere the words on the journal card.

My first gel print of this session is on top of the stack. Can you see all the different patterns and colors used? Lots of stencils and patterns in this one. March 2021 Artistic Stencil Club, Bubble Wrap, Romantic Swirl Rubber Stamp, Little Daisies Stencil, Large Diamonds Stencils were all used.

On the top is one of the clean up pages. I cleaned my brayer off on a book page and occasionally I would use those pages to mop up excess paint on the gel plate. These can be interesting prints and are fun to use as backgrounds.

Mixing up colors can be so much fun! The first patterns were the Romantic Swirl Stamp and Bubble wrap. Remember if you use objects on your gel plate to make sure they won’t make a cut or permanent mark! The Small Broken Circles stencil with purple paint shows up a little, the Victorian panel is in there too! The gold used with the Diamond With Flair Stencil isn’t visible in the photo, however, when you old the gel print and tilt it back and forth you see the pattern.

Layering  the patterns I pick up over the brayered book pages is fun and interesting. Sometimes you can plan how these will turn out and sometimes you can’t. The key is to have fun! Don’t stress if you didn’t get the perfect print. Pull the print and move on to the next one, or try to perfect the print by trying again. It is just paint and paper after all.

While this print didn’t come out as I expected, I still like the patterns. This page could be cut into smaller sections, or used to create a background. One of my friends loves to tear her gel prints and use them to create collages. She will draw out an image and pick torn bits to fill out the image.

Mopping up the edges can create some cool prints too. Sometimes I’ll use these to create journal cards or pockets. These will match the full sheet that was created and gives a little extra that can be used.

Have fun when you gel print. Whatever you do, don’t stress! Think of this as play and when we play we don’t stress right?

Flip Through of Monochrome Junk Journal

Sharing a Flip Through of Monochrome Junk Journal. This journal took a while for me to create! I started it last year and finally got it all done! I hope you enjoy seeing the whole journal put together!

A year in the making, this Flip through of the Monochrome Junk Journal, Linda reviews the 3 signatures she created with the elements and the collaged fabric cover.

Creating the three signatures took a while, each one has 11 sheets of folded pages that are 6″ x 9″‘s.

Using stencils and even coloring book pages are great options. Whether you sew or not adding fabric and trim to the pages with lace are great ideas!

 

Use simple altered paper clips to hold in those loose pieces, it can be as easy as attaching piece of fabric.

Deciding where pockets should be and then creating the elements and ephemera used is a big part of creating any journal.
Altering an envelope can be done easily with rubber stamps! One of the stamps from the Lace Duo was stamped around the edge. On a scrap of white paper the little birds were stamped and a real piece of lace was attached.

Lynda Coker sent a fabric tag and Linda used the tag to inspire her own version. When you see things, try to find a way to create your own version.


The Jewel Key and Key Play are great accents for a corner of a page. The Woven Boxes stencil looks wonderful in Tarnished Silver TAGM.

Stamping around the edge of a page gives a beautiful touch to a plain page. Repeat a design, twisting the stamp to alter the placement around the edge of a page.

Try mixing different shades of cream, white, kraft and black together. These all still fit the monochrome theme. The Floral Motif Small looks great stamped on a book page.

Got scrapbook paper that is too busy? Try attaching another paper on top to tone down the pattern and create additional writing space. Then accent the piece with a stamp, like the Tulip Twine that Linda used.

The page on the right features stamping with the Henna Rose and stenciling from the December 2021 Stencil Club.  Expect Great Things is a phrase from the Dream Big QT. Layering scraps of paper on top of each other gives a nice touch to the page.

Even something as simple as an index card can be used as a pocket and writing space in a junk journal.

A painted book page is a great way to add additional writing space.

Stamp different elements like these that Linda shares. On the blank ticket, Ellis Stamp “Every Artist”  Then on Ivory cardstock Linda used one of the stamps from the Birds Life Cube Stamps.

The cover has pockets on the front and back to include additional items.

 

 

This was a chunky journal for sure! But look at all the beautiful elements that were included. Make sure to go back and check out the previous tutorials on the pages created for this journal! Then take those ideas and create your own!
