How to Make a Handkerchief Pocket, start with a fabric handkerchief. Cut into quarters and select one of those quarters to use for the pocket.
Adhere the handkerchief to a book page, leaving at least a half inch of book page sewing on all sides, especially if it is thin or see through. Or adhere to a plain sheet of paper if you don’t want the text to be seen.
For my pocket I wanted it to be 5 x 5 inches. I used the existing sewed hem for two of the sides and scored the other two sides to the desired size.
Fold on the score lines to indicate pocket size. Make sure that it will accommodate the journal card you plan to put in the pocket. I will lay the card down over the handkerchief and then fold the edges in to confirm the size.
Select a length of flat lace and adhere on the side that doesn’t have a hem.
Open up the folds so that these don’t get sewn down. Sew the other three sides, which will help the napkin to stay in place over the book page.
Select two white paper flowers – these were old from my stash, if you have dies you could cut flowers or hand cut out of paper. Spray with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to change to a matching color. Dry the flowers or the spray will transfer to the napkin.
Stack the flowers together with glue. Select a piece of green Tattered Angels Dyed fabric and pleat to mimic a leaf and adhere under the flower. Add a flat back pearl or other gem to the center and adhere the flower unit on the napkin.
Adhere the sentiment in the corner or desired area.
Create the journal card with pocket. Using a piece of 5 x 7 cardstock as the base and a 5 x 3.5 inch piece adhere together. Round the corners. Apply a strip of scrapbook paper in the center of the pocket piece and then adhere a horse phrase on top.
Add Horse journal card to the pocket on the large journal card and you are done!
The handkerchief pocket is ready to adhere to a journal page.
These are so easy to make! Create several to have on hand for several journals.
