Sharing How to do Pamphlet Stitch inside Travelers Notebook Insert. Using Calico Collage images for the focal point on my covers on top of various colors of cardstock I share how to sew the pages together using a Pamphlet Stitch and make Travelers Notebook inserts.
My inserts measure 8.25 in. tall by 4.25 in. wide. I use 12 sheets of paper folded in half for a total of 48 pages inside the insert. Some of the papers used, scrapbook papers, notebook paper, grid paper, mop up sheets when I spray Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and more.
Once the size of a journal has been determined I make a template for my hole placement. I like the holes to be evenly spaced. The template will have three holes. Creating these journals is a great way to use up those papers in your stash that you don’t madly love. Sometimes I look at the papers in a scrapbook pad and if some are not really to my liking to make a greeting card I’ll use it in a journal. These are still pretty papers, but may be limited to larger layouts.
Calico Collage images from the Spring Peacock, Natures Glory and Unicorn Magic journal kits were used on the covers. These print two images per a page. Designed to be folded in half and used as a journal page. I had a few left over from making journals and I thought these would make great cover images. I just cut the page in half and trimmed down the image to be 4 inches wide. Then I added either washi tape or ribbon to the top and bottom of the image. Lastly, I added sewing stitches all around the image.
Here is a couple of photos of my Book Binding Cradle. My husband made the cradle based off of my needs and scraps of lumber that we had laying around. I chose to have one made out of wood because the cardboard ones for sale seemed flimsy to me. This is very sturdy. In fact, it is almost the height of a short stool when turned on the end and my husband was using it as a chair while I was crafting. lol
The scraps of wood were about 20 inches long and 8 inches wide. The end pieces are almost 8 inches square. The idea is that this looks like a trough and there is a gap at the bottom of the V for the book pages to rest and the awl to punch through.
I made a bunch of these Travelers Notebooks because I’ll be in a show in August. No need to wait until the last moment to get things ready.
