Sewn Journal Cards

Glad you are here to see my post about the Sewn Journal Cards I made for the Lace Song Bird Junk Journal. Sewing lace and fabric on the journal card gives a pretty texture.

Sewn Journal Cards Supply List

Ivory cardstock stamped with a background stamp
Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad, Mini, Dried Marigold
Blending tool
ScraPerfect Best Glue Ever
Fiskar Scissors
Fabric strip – one inch wide
Lace
Sewing Machine
Martha Stewart Bird punch
Peach cardstock
Self-adhesive rhinestones
We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper Tool
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist – Apricot

The method is pretty simple. Cut the stamped cardstock down to the size you want your journal cards – mine were about 4 inches by 5 inches in size. Round the corners with the Corner Chomper.

Apply Distressed ink – Spiced Marigold around the edges of the journal cards. Then spray Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists over the cards to add a pretty shimmer.

Sew lace and fabric to the card with a zig-zag stitch on a sewing machine. If you don’t have a sewing machine use the Best Glue Ever or staple the lace and fabric to the card.

Use the Martha Stewart Bird Punch with peach paper to make bird shapes. Apply Distressed ink – Spiced Marigold around the edges of the birds. Adhere birds on top of the fabric with ScraPerfect’s Best Glue Ever.

For a final touch adhere self-adhesive rhinestone for an eye on each bird.

Using the mop up page created during the the Winter Bliss Sprayed, Stenciled and Stamped Journal Page Tutorial. Linda shows how you can create a fun journal page using your stencils, sprays and rubber stamps!

Using your mop up pages

Linda has stamped the snow flake border and the White Christmas rubber stamp for this page. She then sprayed tattered angels glimmer mist on the snow flake stencil from the December Artistic Stencil Club.

Placing a strip of a gel print on one side of the journal card, Linda created a journal card and decorated an envelope, by using the Textured Edges Quartet, Romantic Swirl, and Twas the Night Before rubber stamps with with Blue Print Distress Oxide Ink.

When creating this journal card, she used Aleene’s Tacky Glue to place an image from the Winter Bliss digital kit. Linda then took a scrap piece of lace and sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmer mist,

Create a journal card by stamping around the outside using Textured Edges and Twas the Night Before Rubber Stamps. Linda chose to use the little tree from the Festive Cube set to make it look like an actual post card.

Using the Textured Edges and Romantic Swirl rubber stamps, Linda demonstrates you can even stamp the backs of envelopes to use in your journals.

Getting creative using the Winter Bliss kit, with mop up pages, before you know it you will have made a complete junk journal page. Club. Keep your tags simple by highlighting areas using Tulip Glitter Paint to add a little sparkle to your ephemera.

Using pieces of the Winter Bliss digital kit create a belly band for your Geli prints and journal cards, this is great for extra writing space.

Using the Sew Artsy Subscription box items, tutorial Linda shows you how to create three different altered paperclip ribbon holders.

Using the fibers, charms, buttons and bulb pins that are included in the Sew Artsy Subscription Box, Linda wrapped the ribbon holder piece, She then glued on a button and attached a bulb pin with a charm.

Wrap your fibers, and tie it in a bow, then add sequins and charms to your bulb pin and let it dangle from your altered paper clip

Butterfly Journal Card Tutorial

Sharing a Butterfly Journal Card Tutorial I made using the Royal Peacock Digital Download (or printed kit) Bline Designs Stamps, fibers, rhinestones and more. Would make a beautiful card to send to a friend too.

Supplies used for the Butterfly Journal Card Tutorial.

Begin by selecting the butterfly fussy cut page from the Royal Peacock Kit. Fussy cut the elements and apply Walnut Stain Distress Ink with a blending tool around the edges.

Use a Gold Krylon to apply gold around the edge of the butterfly image.

Select a 4 x 6 journaling card and place inside MISTI with the Damask Collage Background from Bline Designs and use the Versamark Watermark Ink pad on the stamp. Press Image to paper, clean stamp then use Gilded Gold Embossing powder on the newly stamped image.

Emboss the image with heat tool. Make sure to not touch the embossing until it cools. Use a heat resistant surface when embossing.

Apply the Versamark inkpad to the edges of the card then dip the card into the gold embossing powder, heat emboss.

Create a second journal card in the same manner using the Postcard Collage Stamp from Bline Design.

Spray Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Royal Green and Royal Gold on both journal cards. Tap with paper towel if there is too much paint pooling.

Adhere a couple of the fussy cut elements on the Damask Background Journal card base with Aleene’s Tacky glue.

Apply Tulip Dimensional Fabric glitter paint on the flowers and butterflies. Allow the paint to dry.

Add pop dots to the back of the Butterfly image. Cut a few pieces of trims and yarns and make a circle over the flowers on the card with a circle of glue then the Butterfly image on top.

Apply distress ink to the edges of the White Words on Black then adhere on the journal card.

Place drops fo the Best Glue Ever in a pleasing manner on the journal card for the flat back rhinestones. Allow the glue to dry until it is clear then place the gems on the glue using Embellie Gellie.

Repeat the same process using the Postcard Collage Journal card base.

Now admire your journal cards. This was a fun Butterfly Journal Card Tutorial as I loved being able to take some time to bling up a couple of cards. What are your favorite embellishments to add to journal cards?
