Whenever I’m in a creative slump I try some Creative Mixed Media Play. It is a great way to just play and not think about what you are doing. The idea is to just let things come together, enjoy the process and play. Don’t like the last layer, add another with paint, stencils, stampings or Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Keep playing as long as you like, never worrying about what you will do with the finished items.

Supplies used for the Creative Mixed Media Play session.
- Old Business Cards or playing cards or even a full sheet of old watercolor paper
- Washi Tape
- Gesso
- Acrylic paint in various colors
- Plastic card – gift card, hotel key
- Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, True Turquoise, Black Cherry, Blarney, Hemlock Green, Dazzling Diamonds
- Stamps, texture, and flowers
- Foam Brush
- Pallet
- Stencils, Connecting Diamonds, Leaf, Circles
- Book pages to use as mop up pages
- Heat Tool
- Fiskars Scissors
- Pencil
- Ken Oliver Mixed Media Mat
- Tim Holts Craft Pick
The method of a Creative Mixed Media Play session is very simple. PLAY. For my play session, I decided to use old business cards as the base to paint. Attaching eight cards together with washi tape is a great way to work on multiple cards at one time as one unit.
Apply layers and let them dry or manually dry each layer. I found that I like to work one layer at a time.
This is Creative Mixed Media Play, it is okay to mix different mediums. In my project I used, paper, paint, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Stamping, and stencils. You may choose to use layers of paper and some paint. It is okay to use what you have and just have fun.
These little cards will be fun to use in other projects. I’ll use some to make embellishments, journal cards or even just accents in a junk journal.
