During the YouTube Live event, the Winter Bliss Journal was deconstructed and then made into a new journal. The goal was to show that even though the journal comes bound, it can be taken apart and have more pages added to suit your needs.

Because you can add more pages, you can customize the journal to fit you. Use those old Christmas cards, specialty papers and more.

Using Musical Botanica Chipboard Pieces on a Journal Page. In this tutorial I’ll share how to use the laser cut chipboard pieces from the Musical Botanica Creative Kit on a Journal Page.

Supplies used.
The first thing I do is select which pieces I want to use and paint them with white acrylic craft paint. Since the chipboard is brown any color that is put on top will take on a dark hew. So by coating it first with one or two layers of white paint allows the colors to show.

Once the white paint is dry then I select what I want to color the chipboard. Today I used the Musical Botanica Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist kit and sprayed some on the chipboard.

I also used acrylic craft paint on one of the pieces.

Select a book page and a music sheet to use for the page. Using the book page fold it so that it becomes a pocket. Add color to the page using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Then add a pattern using the full stencil from the Musical Botanica Creative Kit.

If you like the vintage distressed look add distressed walnut stain to all the edges.

Optional, sew around the outside edge of the pocket and then across the bottom to frame the pocket. Can always use a rubber stamp to create faux stitches or even use a border stamp.

Using a piece of hymnal book page create a matt to go behind the chipboard pieces. This will be used to give more body and layer over the pocket. I like to glue book pages to thinner book pages to give them more strength. Add stitching around these new matt pieces.

Create the stamped sentiment using Music Is and Music in the Soul rubber stamps. I use Archival Ink Jet Black when stamping. Cut down and add distress ink to walnut stain the edges.

Layer the elements on the pocket, use the Flax stamped and water colored image, thread, butterfly sticker to create dimension and interest.

Apply distress oxide ink Seedless Preserves directly on the sheet music and then through the Stencil to create a pattern in the background.

Stamp the Henna Rose Stamp around the edges of the pink tear off note paper. If you don’t have these little note pads, look to see what you have in your stash. Adding color to plain notebook paper is a great way to change those up.

Adhere the flip out pocket to the sheet music. Using Fabri Tac glue adhere the lace down the outside edge. Select another tear off note paper and a fussy cut Coneflowers stamped image to layer around the page.

Apply the round treble clef over the hymnal scrap and adhere to the corner.

Put one of the printed journal cards from the Musical Botanica creative kit inside the pocket and then select a plain ivory card to decorate.

Adhere coffee dyed paper to the back of a set of four connected tickets. Stamp the Heart Music stamp on top and then layer a butterfly sticker. Inside stamp the treble clef.

On the plain ivory card use the swirls and music stamp to stamp at the top. Apply a musical instrument sticker (found at Dollar Tree). Add a little Bella rose stamped image at the top corner.

Fold a piece of craft cardstock ATC card in half to make a little card. Apply a water colored flower image on the outside and then apply the small Journal QT stamp on top.

Layered Paint Gel Print Tutorial

In this Layered Paint Gel Print Tutorial I’ll show how to layer different colors of paint using stencils, stamps and other objects to create a unique gel print. In fact I turned this gel print into a digital download.

Supplies used for the Layered Paint Gel Print Tutorial

When wanting a layered look in a gel print it is important that you let each layer of paint dry before adding the next layer. Sure you can keep going in the wet paint, but it will blur the images and could blend into mud.

The first stencil is from the Wild and Free Creative Subscription Box. I used it with a turquoise green paint in a random fashion. Pick up the stencil and move it to a different section if using a large gel plate. If you use a smaller gel plate you can lay the stencil over the whole gel plate and then add paint where you want it to show.

Repeat the stencil process using the Flowers and Vines stencil. Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next layer.

For the next layer I used the Diamond Bar Rubber stamp. It is easier to load the stamp with paint using a brayer. If you don’t have a second gel plate like I used, then grab some book pages and brayer the paint out to use as a paint pallet. When you are done using the stamp clean it so that the paint doesn’t dry on the stamp image.

Objects are great for adding texture to a gel print. Look around at what you might have on hand. Good rule of thumb, if it can cut or gouge your gel plate, don’t us it to make marks. Bubble wrap, empty thread spools and more make great items to use.

Once all the marks have been added to the gel plate allow the paint to dry. This may take a few minutes or longer. It depends on how dry your studio is or how much paint you used.

When the paint is dry load the gel plate with the lifting color(s). In my case I used two colors and blended these together.

Use a book page or your favorite paper to lift the gel print. Smooth the paper with your hands or a brayer. Then carefully lift the paper from the gel plate.

Super easy Tri Fold Folio Tutorial for you today. This project is a great way to use scrapbook papers, franken pages and digital prints. Create a few of these folios to give as gifts or add to a junk journal.

Below is a diagram showing how to score an 8.5 x 11 sheet of double sided paper. Remember you can create double sided papers by gluing two back to back, stenciling, stamping and collaging on the back. Whatever you want, do what you love! I used a few pages from the Wild and Free Collection for my foundation.

Included in this tutorial I’ll show ideas on journal cards and tags that can be added to the folio or journals. Because, it is fun to create your own ephemera to add to junk journals.

Using the Tri Fold Folio Diagram score and fold a letter sized paper (8.5 s 11 inches) Remember this can be scrapbook paper, digital paper, collaged, stamped, stenciled papers or even franken pages.

For the front Tri Fold Folio I made a pocket to hold a journal card. Also, this pocket has a tab where the fabric used to wrap the folio is attached. Try printing a digital journal page at 5 x 7 and then cutting it to fit a project.

Having the digital image was a great focal point for the front of the folio. Add stitches as a decorate touch.

The journal card features one of my Wild 2 Gel Print Digital Download. I love how I made one gel print and then was able to alter it digitally to create nine different colorways. On top of the card is the Cow Skull Rubber stamp that I colored with watercolor pencils. However, this could also be colored with regular color pencils, markers or other mediums.

A side pocket was created out of a scrap of white cardstock that was stamped with the Henna Rose Rubber stamp and then lightly brushed with distress oxide Seedless Preserves. On top of the strip is another piece from the Wild 2 Gel Print Digital Download.

Save strips of paper cut off of pages. I love having these strips for words and sentiments. Stamped; collect beautiful moments from the Never stop exploring QT and bohemian from the Bohemian Words QT sets.

Tri Fold Folio Tutorial

A top loading pocket on the back of the folio adds more color and texture. The Canning Jar Large was stamped on one of the pages from the Wild and Free collection. Print one of the pattern papers on cardstock and then stamp with the canning jar. Adding a scrap of fabric at the top helps pull the card from the pocket. Also add decorate touches like stamping the Dragonfly and stay wild to attach to the jar.

Add tags and journal cards to the inside. Rubber stamp on printed paper to get unique journal cards. I used the Swirly Note Card and the Library Card 2 to create a couple of journal cards.
