How to make a Spring Peacock Junk Journal

For this journal, I decided that my foundation papers would be made from some paper I had in my stash. Years ago when Xpedex paper had a retail store in Oklahoma City I would shop there on a regular basis.

While shopping at Xpedex I would look at their clearance section. One of these visits I found 6 reams of letter size (8.5 in. x 11 in.) paper for four dollars a ream. What was wrong with the paper? It was a flecked sage green. While I love green, it wasn’t a favorite color of mine.

The manager noticed that I was looking at the paper and came over. He said hey I’ve had this paper on the shelf way too long. I’ll make a deal you can’t pass by today. How about I sell these to you for two dollars a ream. I said sold. Not knowing what I was going to do with that paper, but heck at that price I could use it for something some day.

Well, today is that “some day”. Pulling out my Tattered Angel glimmer mists I got an idea. I would mist the papers and change the color. Since the sage was such a light color the glimmer mists would easily change the color.

Wow, what a change the glimmer mists made to the paper. It was so much fun to see the transformation right before my eyes.

Now down to How to make a Spring Peacock Junk Journal.

The best thing to do is decide on the final size you want your pages. The kit is designed for 5 in. x 7 in. I chose to cut my pages down to 7.5 in. x 11 in. That way there would be a small border around each of the Calico Collage image.

Sort through the images and choose which ones you want to use. In my case, I was able to decide that I wanted three signatures of four sheets of paper each.

Next start selecting Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and spray each piece of copy paper, or text weight paper on both sides. Dry with a heat tool, or set aside to air dry.

Select images from the kit. Use coordinating Brutus Monroe ink or Tim Holtz Distress Ink around the images to finish the edges. Adhere the images with Aleene’s Tacky Glue. When I adhere a full page I left the top open so that it created a natural pocket. Think of gluing in a U shape. Also don’t use tape if you are planning on making a pocket, as items put into the pocket will stick to the tape.

On some of the pages, I wanted to have lined journaling spots. This is where a Jr Legal paper pad is handy. They are light weight and add a perfect touch to the journal. These look wonderful with a little glimmer mist sprayed on these as well.
