Several followers have requested that I show mini junk journals that can be added to a larger Junk Journal. It is nice to have more writing space inside a journal, so adding a mini journal expands the writing area. In this Mini Junk Journal Tutorial, using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists, Lace Stencil, Distress Inks and my sewing machine I share how to transform a dictionary page into a mini junk journal.

Some time ago I was given an old dictionary. The covers had been removed and all I had was the really old looking pages. The pages are great, but not strong enough to use on their own. That is when I realized that I had a whole stack of cardstock that would be the perfect size to make a mini junk journal.

I like using what I have on hand to make something pretty. In this case, the pages for my mini junk journal tutorial helped determine the size of each journal. When I was working for a large company for almost 24 years I helped with special print jobs. One of our print jobs required some perforated papers. The first sample that the company sent to us was not the correct type of paper. This paper was going to be trashed when I took it home. Granted I’ve had it for many years and only recently thought about it and started using the paper. But it was perfect to get two journals out of one sheet of paper.

If you are not lucky like me to have perforated paper, you can use standard copy paper. Just cut into 8 pieces measuring 4.25 x 2.75 inches.

Working with the dictionary pages it was easy to make two journals out of each. It was so easy that I ended up making 10 sets or 20 total mini junk journals. These measure 2 1/4 x 3 inches with 4 sheets of paper to make 16 pages measuring 2 1/8 x 2 3/4 inches each (when folded). Each Piece of paper measures 4.25 x 2.75 inches.

Using the Lace Stencil and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists in a variety of colors I sprayed the book pages.

Here is a tip for you. If you have white crochet thread that you want to change to another color, use a distress ink pad and a blending tool. Place the thread under the blending tool directly on the ink pad and pull the thread. Repeat this process until the thread is the color you want. This way you don’t have to buy every color in the rainbow. You can make your own when you want. 🙂
