This Tropical Flip Book Tutorial Using Junk Mail is because of a YouTube followers request. She really asked for me to make a tropical flipbook, I just chose to use junk mail. 😉 The tutorial has these techniques included: Frankenpage, Tuck Spot, Paper Hinge Technique, Pockets, Belly Band, Hidden Pocket. Day 8 of my #useitupjuly challenge.

Because this was a request, I decided to see what I could use to create this journal. Therefore the junk mail became my friend! lol

You will look at your mail differently after seeing how I transformed a mail flyer into a really cool Tropical Flip Book. The method is really easy. Using the Frankenpages concept, attach scraps of papers to a mailer. In my case, this was a large 11 inch tall by about 22 inch wide advertisement.

If you don’t have an advertisement that is that large, you can always attach several together. Use the scraps of paper to adhere the pieces together or even washi tape. Don’t be afraid to try new things and use up things that might otherwise be trash.

Once the scraps have adhered to the base I then added stitching around the pieces. I chose to work on one side first using black thread in the upper and lower threads on my machine. That way there would be decorative stitches on both sides. When I felt one side had all the necessary stitches I the flipped over the piece and added stitches where I thought it would look good.

Choose elements from old projects to decorate the new flip book base. Some of these were digital images from Calico Collage, some were scraps from play sessions. This is a great project to use up those leftovers.

Have fun playing with the junk and make something useful. Because you won’t know what you can create, until you give it a try. This Tropical Flip Book would be a great travel item to add memories from a fun Tropical Vacation.
