To begin this Halloween Skull Mini Junk Journal Tutorial Print the Skull image from the digital journal kit. In Windows 10 right click on the image inside File Explorer. Choose print. Inside the print window, choose 3.5 x 5 inch and uncheck Fit Picture to frame. Select the number of copies, one will print one image at 3.5 x 5.
Trim the image removing the white around the edges. Cut a piece of black cardstock about 1/4 of an inch larger than the image.
Adhere image to cardstock. Fold the cover in half.
Using the book cover as a guide cut mop up pages to be 1/4 of an inch smaller than the cover. The journal made in the tutorial has 4 sheets of paper folded in half. If there is a page long enough make a flip out.
Fold the pages in half. Stack to make a signature and place inside the cover. Hold in place with paper clips or binder clips. Using a ruler determine the center point and use the craft pick to punch three holes. One in the center and the other two about half an inch from the edges in the crease of the book spine through all the pages.
Thread the bookbinders needle with waxed linen thread that is three times the height of the journal cover. Start inside on the center hole and push the needle to the outside. Hold on to the tail of the thread. Push the needle through the top hole from the outside and go inside the journal. Holding the tail of the thread that is on the inside up toward the top of the journal. Doing this will help keep the thread out of the way.
Push the needle through the center hole again and go to the outside. From the outside center go to the bottom hole and push to the inside. Slip the needle under the top thread and pull down. Make sure that the threads on the outside and inside are tight and tie a square knot. Cut off excess threads. Optional, add punched paper shapes to the ends of the string or leave plain.
