Here it is the second installment of my Junk Journal series A Mermaid Tale Junk Journal. In this project, I show the items I selected for the journal and then make the journal from the insides to the covers and including the embellishments.

The first thing I do is pull my digital papers to the front if I’m going to be using some in the journal. My reason for doing so is this will determine the size of all the pages I use in my junk journal. I prefer to have all the pages the same size. But, feel free to make your pages any size you like!. Occasionally I’ll do a journal with all different sizes of papers but when working with digital images I like using the size they are printed.

Having pulled the digital images out of A Mermaid Tale Junk Journal digital kit, I’ll see if I want to print lines on the back side and then trim the page of the white area down to the page image. Now I measure this page and that is the size I’ll cut the rest of my pages. However, if you like all different sizes, then use what you like!

When all the pages are cut I’ll then decide to either stamp on the pages and Add Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists.

If I’m working on a theme then I will make embellishments as I make the journal. And by theme one that is not going to cross over from another very well. lol Like the Mermaid isn’t a Jane Austin style journal so you wouldn’t really find one in the other. But I will make a batch of Jane Austin style elements to use in lots of journals. Mermaid stuff I try to make as I need so I don’t have to store it when I’m done if it didn’t get used. 😉

Then I proceed in stacking the pages and adding the embellishments, including journal cards and tags. The cover is chosen out of cardstock this time to keep it simple and I liked the pattern. Using my sewing machine I sewed the elements in place. Doesn’t the stitching make you want to touch the cover?

The cover for A Mermaid Tale Junk Journal is attached to the signature of pages with a pamphlet stitch. I used a pretty teal blue ribbon slipped through the binding and tied in a bow to hold it closed and the journal is done.
